Around 1978 I was looking at the guns at a Gibson’s in Dothan, AL. I spotted a S&W model 17 and was surprised at how cheap it was. At second look, it was a Taurus. Now I was familiar with Taurus. Good solid cheap guns from Brazil but not close to Colt, Ruger or S&W.

As I looked it over, it was really well finished. I think this was around the time that Taurus began to improve their guns quality.

I later had a model 85 in .38 special. I later let my Brother have it. Nothing special about it but he never had any problems with it either.

“If the hand gun doesn’t say Colt on it then I don’t buy.”

The S&W 586 is every bit as good as any Colt ever built.

Python included.

I’ve fired both and prefer the Smith over all others.

I don’t have any Colts but am very satisfied with my Rugers and Sigs.

Well I ignored the sign. Paying for parking? No way! Besides all I bought was $5 of on sale beans, grapes, and greatfruit.

I had a 686. Amazingly accurate. I will have to buy another one today. Loved that pistol.

ImVho, the Taurus handguns are ALL inferior in quality, when compared to a Colt’s, Smith & Wesson, Sig-Sauer or Browning high-power.

Fwiw, I was a LEO for most all of my active working life & have held an Army Rangemaster’s certificate for well over 2 decades.

My “every day carry concealed weapon” is a circa 1982 SIG-SAUER P225 semi-auto pistol in 9mm Luger caliber (I bought it as “surplus” from the German Forest Service.), that I’ve carried every day since 1996.
(It holds 9 rounds of 115 grain JHP & wears comfortably in an on-the-waist belt holster by Safariland leather.)

Note: IF you want a .38 Special revolver for every day concealed carry, consider a J-frame S&W with 2” barrel.

Just my OPINION, TMN78247

[Check the angle of barrel to frame, sometimes they are not aligned on Taurus. The gap between the barrel and cylinder then is different from left to right and if too close on one side, it can jam when the gun heats up. Had that happen on my airweight and a judge. After a quick fix by the gunsmith it worked very well.]

A revolver that jams? What a concept.

My Taurus .44 magnum is awesome. 4 inch ported barrel. I had a nice fully covered holster made for it.

I’m a big Ruger revolver fan myself. The GP 100 is the best wheel gun I’ve ever owned.

Fusion’s are nice. I have a 1911 six-inch longslide in 10mm.

I like my S&W snubbie, which I’ve had for over two decades. I can carry it anywhere. I can put it in a holster. I can slip it in a pocket.

In the winter I like it in my coat pocket. Walking down the street, nobody thinks it odd if you keep your hands in your pockets. The fastest draw is when you already have it in your hand.

I had a P225 too. It was basically identical to the P226 except for the single stack mag. It is the only SIG I have ever had jam.

I was firing PMC 90 grain JHPs. The first and only jam was a dive into the mag by the front of the cartridge. I didn’t try that ammo again in the 225 but did note that it worked perfectly in the 226.

I have had the same thing happen before with single stack mags and am convinced that double stack are more reliable. When all is said and done tho, I think the ammo was about 90% at fault.

I have a .22 mag 8 round revolver.
I’ve sent it back to Taurus “TWICE” for repair.
I’m hoping “The Third Time’s a Charm”.
Numrich Gun Parts and I’ll do it myself!

They’re a decent firearm. Keep your warranty information just in case there is an issue. From my understanding quality control is in spurts with them, good years and bad usually depends on who owned the company at the time. Try full metal jacket and hollow points and try and get a hundred rounds through it. Firing double action quickly and single action. I have a Taurus TCP .380 which has been flawless. Good shooting!

I bought a Taurus .38 Special 2” snub way back in 1982. Still have it. Sweet little revolver...conceals well and shoots great. I also have one of their new 9mm G2Cs and it is also a pretty good little shooter and also conceals quite well. I’ve not had an issue with either of the two Taurus guns that I own.
