Eric Drouet, one of the visible figures of the Yellow Vests protest movement, was arrested near the Palace de la Concorde in Paris at 9pm local time Wednesday.
He is accused of "undeclared protest" as the Google translation puts it. Drouet was enroute to meet other protesters in the city.
His arrest follows President Emmanuel Macron's tough New Year's Eve message about "hate" coming from the ranks of the Yellow Vests. Macron promised order:
"without compromise"
in France in the coming year.
Others were arrested with Drouet. He was taken away under arrest by a swarm of police.
Drouet's lawyer told BFM-TV:
"It's an unjustified arrest, it is a practice of another country and another time"
Interviewed on RTL Radio in France Thursday morning Benjamin Cauchy of the "Free Yellow Vests" faction said that:
"Mr. Castaner (The Interior Minister in charge of police) and Mr. Macron decided to suppress and mock the word of the people"
Cauchy compared the arrest of Drouet to putting alcohol on a barbecue and he expects anger to be restarted in the country as a result.
He said the Drouet arrest is the result of Macron's:
"considering us as a hate crowd"

What stopped you from posting the whole thing?
Here’s the video without the blog:
Why would you direct people to your blog for a video you had nothing to do with?
For those unfamiliar with Eric Drouet, he’s basically a long-haul trucker (by profession). He’s not some radical, or some freak leftist university punk, or heading up some labor union. He’s just a trucker who got fired-up early on in the yellow vest episode.
The charge against him for the arrest? “Carrying a prohibited weapon”, not a knife or pistol....but something that could have been club, teargas, etc. The other charge is “participating in a group formed for violence or degrading”. Most suggest if this goes forward, it’ll be timed right around the EU voting period (election is in May, and his court is early June).
One curious thing about Drouet, or the family name Drouet....is that the name leads back to a major player in the late 1700s, (Jean-Baptiste Drouet) who helped to bring down the King of France. This comparison, is fairly dramatic and you just have to wonder if the Macron dimwits grasp the guys name or the implications.
On the oddity scale....just a simple truck driver, leading some yellow vest French guys, arrested with mostly marginal charges, and his ancestor might have brought down the King of France...this would be on the oddity scale a full blown ‘10’.
Brings to mind the statement that although history does not repeat itself, it rhymes. Buckle up.
This is an attempt by the government to stop the protests the way they normally stop protests. Arrest the leader. Then, the protests stop. They looked around and, not finding a “leader” they declared a visible figure to be the leader and arrested him. This is rather like trying to stop a volcano by hauling away a few chunks of lava.
People at the top of the government told the man in charge of the police, “Arrest the leader.” He probably said, “There is no leader.” The government said, “Either you arrest the leader or we’ll replace you with someone who will.” The head of the police then passed the instructions down the chain of command. Finally, some low level functionary, being threatened with dismissal, said, “Le f@ck it. Just find somebody and arrest him.”
They may have made a serious mistake as they have made this man a de facto symbol of the resistance. They may have just created more problems than they solved.
Bad move by Macron. His ancien regime attitude is going to back fire
Yep, you have it.
This guy is likely to become some accidental icon. The news media-controllers that got Macron to the Presidency...have never had to deal with this type of yellow vest creation. If it wasn’t for social media, I don’t think the vest guys would have come together like this.
Watch Macron over the next two months...I doubt if he makes any real public appearances other than on TV, or in some international setting (like in Germany).
The thing is, there is a path out of this mess. However, it is unacceptable to Macron. He could sit down with representatives of the rest of the government and come up with a plan to dismantle the causes of the protests. They are globalization, taxation, and unworkable labor and finance laws. (Painting with a fire hose here, for simplicity.)
However, each of the above causes is an outgrowth of a religious reverence for some ideology. Religion and ideology are not subject to logical, rational solutions. Also, as one French official pointed out, the Yellow Vests want to have their cake and eat it to. You can’t have even more free stuff and lower taxes.
Macron needs to meet his storm the Bastille moment and France can see what comes next.
The UK police did much the same to Tommy Robinson...arrested and jailed for making a video outside the courthouse (where islamic rapists were being tried)
This will not end well for Macrom.
They we're much more foolish than that. They broke him. He was at the point where he no longer wanted to play. The harassment continued anyway. He finally figured they were not going to stop and he had nothing to lose, he was already a dead man walking.
That feels very, very likely.
Its like saying arrest the leader of the TEA Party movement 8-9 years ago. Entirely impossible, it was organic and grassroots.
Kind of reminds me of another regular guy hauled away by the police recently. The name Tommy Robinson comes to mind. The Globalist fools in Britain's government didn't understand what they were up against either.
And Barack Obama did the same to Dinesh DSousa. Cant tell there were any consequences for him. Its an outrage that there was no real outrage from the American people.
The Tea Party was destroyed by the IRS.
It was suppressed, it wasnt destroyed. Trumps election is proof.
Trump is alone.
Tea Party ineffective at congressional level because of IRS attacks.
And it was a grassroots movement, utterly crippled by the lawless Nobama regime.
Arresting this man is a calculated risk. They surely hope that other normal protestors (not the ANTIFA thugs but the regular citizens who started this) will be alarmed, cowed and stop showing up. On the other hand, it may backfire, like declaring the signers of the declaration of independence to be traitors to the crown. Sometimes there is nothing more motivating to a man who believes he’s suffering injustice than to threaten him with more if he doesn’t stop if he feels the situation is intolerable enough. We’ll see how the French really feel about this now.
So now they make the guy a martyr. Smart.
