democrats endeavor for nothing so ardently as they do in their search for something by which to be offended. If that something happens to be a tool used to batter the political opposition so much the better.
Today's example is represented by dem Sens. Kamala Harris and Mazie Hirono. The two of them demonstrate how the power of stupidity can be multiplied when combined instead of the just added. They have concluded that being Catholic can lead to a fatal flaw which fatally compromises one's ability to sit as a Federal judge. That flaw? Joining a group known for its hatred, fascism and racism.
The Knights of Columbus.
A judicial nominee faced questions from Senators this month about whether membership in the Knights of Columbus might impede his ability to judge federal cases fairly. The Knights of Columbus say that no candidate for public office should have to defend his membership in a Catholic service organization.Buescher responded appropriatelySenators Mazie Hirono (D-HI) and Kamala Harris (D-CA) raised concerns about membership in the Knights of Columbus while the Senate Judiciary Committee reviewed the candidacy of Brian C. Buescher, an Omaha-based lawyer nominated by President Trump to sit on the United States District Court for the District of Nebraska.
Senators also asked whether belonging to the Catholic charitable organization could prevent judges from hearing cases fairly and impartially.
In written questions sent to Buescher by committee members Dec. 5, Sen. Hirono stated that the Knights of Columbus has taken a number of extreme positions. For example, it was reportedly one of the top contributors to Californias Proposition 8 campaign to ban same-sex marriage.
Hirono then asked Buescher if he would quit the group if he was confirmed to avoid any appearance of bias.
If confirmed, I will apply all provisions of the Code of Conduct for United States Judges regarding recusal and disqualification,It is one more attack on the Catholic religion:
Kathleen Blomquist, spokesperson for the Knights of Columbus, told CNA that the senators questions echoed the kind of anti-Catholicism seen in previous generations of American history. The Knights have a long and proud record of social service:Our countrys sad history of anti-Catholic bigotry contributed to the founding of the Knights of Columbus, and we are proud of the many Catholics who overcame this hurdle to contribute so greatly to our country, Blomquist told CNA
We were extremely disappointed to see that ones commitment to Catholic principles through membership in the Knights of Columbusa charitable organization that adheres to and promotes Catholic teachingswould be viewed as a disqualifier from public service in this day and age.
The Knights of Columbus is active in 17 countries worldwide. In 2017, members carried out more than 75 million hours of volunteer work and raised more than $185 million for charitable purposes. Successive popes, including Pope Francis, have praisied the group for their charitable work and the manner in which they articulate Catholic faith and values.Contrast that to the Clinton Foundation, which services no one more than the Clinton's- or any democrat for that matter.
Cory Booker, who is always in a hyperventilating emotional state, had to mark his territory:It's good to recall that Kamala Harris launched her career in the boudoir of Willie Harris:Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) noted the nominees previously outspoken opposition to abortion and asked why should a litigant in your courtroom expect to get a fair hearing from an impartial judge in a case involving abortion rights?
Buescher responded that as a candidate for Nebraska Attorney General in 2014, I did what candidates for any major state or federal office do, which is to take political positions on a variety of issues of the day.
However, there is a difference between taking political positions as a candidate for elective office and serving as a federal judge. I believe a judges role and obligation is to apply the law without regard to any personal beliefs regarding the law, Buescher wrote.
If confirmed, I will faithfully apply all United States Supreme Court and Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals precedent on all issues, including Roe v. Wade."

A majority of Catholics (I am one - practicing again despite our anti-Pope) vote Democrat (of course I dont). Wonder if this will be enough to open some eyes? Sadly doubt it.
Knights is popular on Staten island and well regarded.
Hey! The the Church of Bob members are upright members of the community. They're okay.
Oh, don't you worry. The Constitution will suddenly be important the second any such line of inquiry is directed at any Muslim candidate.
Trust and believe.
Nah. They know Pelosi is a Catholic - and Christian - in name only. Pelosi whoreships only one god: herself. Hence her real religion: socialism.
this is not new this is a throwback to pre 1950s
Ideally, they would be photogenic and good speakers. That seems to be the critical qualification for public office nowadays.
My secret cabal can find writers to put the best words in their speeches.
So long as you're a Catholic of the: abortion-loving, adulterous, fornicator, LGBT variety (take your pick) - democrats will love and welcome you. Otherwise, in their mind, you have no place in government.
I fault RC bishops around the world for not excommunicating every Catholic (politician or otherwise) who supports or condones godlessness.
IMHO, people like Cardinal Dolan and his colleagues prefer rubbing shoulders and being in the limelight with the likes of the Baldwins, Pelosis and Bidens of this world - than rebuke and excommunicate them.
Sorry but it sounds appropriate to me. A year ago I would have said this was just lib bias BS.
Does being a Catholic stop Nancy Pelosi from voting to fund abortions on Friday and taking communion on Sunday?
> How about asking her if Sharia Law or the Constitution is the supreme law in the Republic. Then again I forget about al-Taqiyya. <
The critics were wrong when they said that JFK’s primary allegiance would be to the pope, and not to his country. But somehow I think this Muslim chick will not put country first. Islam just works that way.
(Oops! Should I not have said “chick”? Was that wrong of me?)
They are warming up their attacks for Amy Coney Barrett, since Ruth Bader Ginsburg just had more malignant cancer tumors cut out.
If the right was doing this to democrat candidates, we’d never hear the end of “no religious tests”.
The blatant hypocrisy.
Given the way some Muslim men treat their women, I think cluck might fit better.
KofC ... the first organization to start handing out financial aid after 9/11, regardless of the recipients religion. Same thing after Hurricane Katrina.
United States Constitution, Article VI
...but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.
bttt
I would love, for once, to see a nominee "take the sixth" and refuse to answer the question by invoking their Article VI protection against religious tests. Each time the Senator pushes the question, the nominee should just declare "I am asserting my Article VI protection against religious tests and refuse to discuss the matter."
When the Senator persists, I would suggest replying with the following:
"How would you use my answer in your deliberations? You can't use it to disqualify me, so isn't it best that we don't even go there so there is no perception of taint in the confirmation process?"Article VI is the same Article that requires the oath that YOU, Senator, swore to 'preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.' Why won't YOU defend my protection against religious tests?"
