Concealed Carry Corner: Situational Awareness – Do You Have It?
thefirearmblog.com/blog ^ | 9/28/18 | Pete

Even though I started writing this column days ago, apparently Wednesday was National Situational Awareness Day.
So much for my digital self-awareness.
But the timing couldn’t be better: The US Concealed Carry Association (USCCA)
dropped a hypothetical restaurant layout on their Facebook page a few days ago,
asking their readers to pick their preferred seat and why.
The idea may be overly simplistic, but anything that helps people literally open their eyes is probably worthy of a discussion.

So, looking at the above floor plan, what seat would you pick and why? ( graphic of restaurant seating arraingement at blog site)

A1 for me. Laz, I like your choice and feel your sentiment, however I don’t want to be in the draft and bustle of the door, same reason I would never sit next/near the bathroom path, doit wasn’t to be connected to the drama.

A1 vs A2 allows me to cover the entire place and since I’m a distance pistol shooter I want as much range, it’s a rare individual that practices 5-20 fathoms. Anything shorter is just a matter is pointing fastest than the other person, for me.

Have not read the article yet, but I would want to sit near the kitchen with that path to a back door and back to wall, facing the entrance.

G1.

I am not especially skilled, but I am very aware.

My best friend, a woman who is largely oblivious, routinely asks me where I want to sit at a public place. She knows I am intensely uncomfortable with my back to the door; she does not joke about it.

With me it is instinctual, not from training.

I like G1, of course you won’t always get your pick. Need to cover all doors if possible. Need a good way out too......

True that !
Just trying to bring situational awareness to the folks who aren't "preppers",
since prepping doesn't appeal to everyone, but survival and situational awareness has its' own appeal, even to the complacent.
Life should be an ongoing educational experience, not just a journey in itself.

A1 or A2, G1 or G2 IF I was out to eat.

I’d rather spend 1/2 the money and cook at Home. We might eat out 8 to 10 times a year if that. I know what’s in Our food and that it wasn’t dropped on a floor, spit in or had bugs in it or walked across it. Or how well the Kitchenware, glasses, cups or dishes and flatware have been washed.

AND did the Kitchen Staff and Waitstaff wash their hands at the start of shift, after going to the bathroom, using the mop and bucket, take out the trash, bus tables or pick their nose. Etc, Etc...

All that said I’m more likely to get sick eating out than being at a shooting event in Our City. More that half the People I’ve met here CCW or OC since that’s legal. I prefer to CCW for the Surprise Factor as I call it.

Of course One never knows when or where some sicko might strike. Doctors Office, ER, Hospital, Lumber Yard, Tack Store or ???.

In the 7 years I’ve lived here I know of 1 Convinence Store and 2 Grocery Stores that have been robbed. The Hospital I go to has had 2 Firearm incidents and both were people that were displaced from Hurricanes and were from out of Town. And the Hospital I use is not in Our City, it’s 12 miles away towards Charlotte (aka Little Chicago Wanna Be) also the 2 Grocery Store Robberies were Charlotte gang jobs, 1 was a gang initiation test.

We call such threats a rude floor show here ........ I dine at my small town eatery where most of the locals are known . The wives and girlfriends will stare down trouble before most men will. It gets quiet before a tornado per se. But you know that

... I’ll take the back corner A1 and a turned over table for “best cover” Alex !

Seriously: Good post. Can’t tell you how many people I know will walk into a small store oblivious to how many people are there, where the clerk is and keeps their back to the front door.

The videos we all see are evidence of what could happen.

I picked C-2. It has visibility of the front door, no one behind you and close to the kitchen door whish allows escape through the back door.
