Last night, the legal team representing Christine Ford, she’s the California woman who claim Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh groped her at some place at some time in the past, sent yet another letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee whinging about most everything. Colleague Miranda Morales covered it in this post but, parsing it, it seems more like someone laying the groundwork for a refusal to show up rather than anything else.
Check out the points.
1) This Bromwich character snivels about Senator Mitch McConnell’s righteous floor speech yesterday. One would hope that Bromwich is bright enough to realize that Chuck Grassley doesn’t tell McConnell, or any other senator, what they may or may not say. So it seems he is setting the predicate to claim that Grassley reneged on his guarantee to allow Ford to spin her yarn without laughing (let me say it again, there is zero evidence that anything this woman has claimed, beyond her name, is the truth).
2) He is objecting to how Grassley wishes to conduct the investigation. This is not something that is any of his concern.
3) One would think Bromwich would be chomping at the bit to have an experienced sex crimes investigator ask the questions. Who, after all, would know more about how to not further traumatize an actual victim and how to elicit maximum facts from them. The fact that Bromwich craps himself over this issue is a clue as to his fears.
4) The clear objective here is to generate video of old, white male Republican senators asking Ford some very tough questions about which she will have no answers but the sad trombone (can we say “womp, womp”?) will play as he gets pouty faced and tears up.
5) There is zero reason that the Senate Judiciary Committee would have to provide Bromwich with any information on whom the Committee has selected to do the examination. Their qualifications have nothing to do with anything. The Committee could have anyone it pleased ask the questions. But we know why they want the name. They want to sent a rent-a-mob to the person’s home and they want to try to preemptively discredit them by the cases they’ve prosecuted.
All of this seems like that Ford is looking for a reason not to show up on Thursday morning. And with good reason. Thus far, of the five people Ford alleges were in the house when she was groped, four of them deny being at any such event and Ford’s lifelong friend says she’s never met Brett Kavanaugh. If she presses ahead with this bullsh** it is hard to see how she doesn’t make herself vulnerable to charges of lying to Congress.

The Right needs to hammer on what HASN’T happened.
- The alleged polygraph? we don’t know what the questions were, who administered it, nor what the answers were. (”Are you Ms. Ford?” “Yes.” “Yup, she passed!”)
- The alleged attempted rape? we _just_ got the original letter; no mention of rape. Her official handlers have been very careful to not use the word “rape” in official contexts, instead using “sexual assault” which legally is often defined as nothing more than “crude comments in a persuasive context”. ([closes door] “You’re hot.” Sexual assault!)
- The requests for a hearing, and complaints of refusal? she hasn’t attempted to file charges in a proper jurisdiction. (FBI: “we don’t investigate decades-old allegations of kids feeling each other up. Go tell the Maryland State Police.” “No, I want you to do what you don’t because it sounds better.”)
We have due process for a reason. She’s not using any of it.

Me. They’re very thin, easy to store, and interesting for remembering one’s history. I either have mine buried amid mounds of old papers, or discarded them only recently.

Exactly. And if she doesn't show, give Judge Kavanaugh a moment to speak, then the committee should vote. Can you be given chance to defend himself without going through a round of virtue posturing by the committee members?

If she hasn’t actually filed charges or otherwise initiated due process, she’s just practically libeling him if she does hold a news conference.
I have noted that she rather precisely hasn’t done anything that she can actually be prosecuted for.

At some point, maybe late October or perhaps sometime in 2019, she should say something like, she doesn’t think Kavenaugh should be confirmed because he may, or may not, have groped her roughly 30+ years ago....
OR, she should withdraw the accusation.
And, otherwise, stop wasting everyone’s time and let America get on with its business!?
Dr. Ford sure doesn’t want to testify under oath.

I don't think this blond bubble head is ever going to speak to the senate. She may give an interview after the fact explaining (whining) why she didn't but this will go nowhere.
In the end the dems will look like the petty petulant children they are and the world will look down its collective nose at them.
Quite. She has made NO publicized statements, especially official ones. And I’m just noting it’s only the _official_ statements which really matter; a public statement should be a colloquial clarification of official filings & procedures, not a freestanding statement of words which don’t legally matter and which merely obfuscate the truth (even if said in good faith, which is quite in doubt at this point).
Either file charges or withdraw the accusation. All the rhetoric is by people speaking from ignorance or ulterior motive. NOBODY on her side is saying anything meaningful, as they have nothing objective to base any of their comments on.
We need to come to grips with the fact that the Left is in a culture war stopping just short of actual full-on violence. They will truly not “stop wasting everyone’s time and let America get on with its business”, they will not “accept the result of the election”. The Right needs to declare, in no uncertain terms, “there exists a due process for a reason - if you deviate from that, we will ignore you no matter how much your mob yells.”
