Conspiracy of Silence in Catholic Dioceses

The culture wars we are fighting are indeed as deep as the Catholic Church, but it's not limited to the Catholic Church, and it's not just a gay thing. Corruption wears many disguises, including liturgical garments. Don't let the robes fool you

The conspiracy of silence in the Catholic Church over scandals involving sex, homosexuality, cover-ups, payouts, betrayal, and corruption have left many Catholics disillusioned and even angry. Corruption wears many disguises, including liturgical garments.

As Part l of “Conspiracy of Silence in Catholic Dioceses”, I addressed, Sacramento Bishop Jaime Soto as one such cover-up agent, according to many area Catholics—not just many Catholics, but every Catholic in the region I’ve spoken to says this.

Covering up for homosexual priests going after children has been going on for more than 30 years. It’s not a new thing.
It’s why I left.

I recall a cover up being staged at the Last Supper over something else, and an attempted cover up or two in Acts. And there is evidence of all sorts of cover ups throughout the Old Testament.

There are many real problems that do need to be addressed. Leaving may be a solution. Sometimes some sort of leaving may be the right solution. But it is not always the right solution.

Anne Roche Muggeridge’s classic “The Gates of Hell” begins its concluding chapter with the quote “Don’t let the b@st@rds drive you out.”

I worry about the seemingly heretical Pope, too! AND also about: Honestly, I had READ of such things, but I never thought FAKEBOOK would do it to me. Now that they HAVE, many friends are describing similar censorship, such as erasing of posts, or not letting their friend “see” messages sent to them, that have happened to THEM! Just NOW Fakebook would NOT let me type the Forbidden website’s name and click Send! The “forbidden” website in question is of course www.codeisfreespeech.com

Typical Catholic response.

Downplay the severity of the issue by comparing it to other allegedly similar episodes either in the past or elsewhere.

And that is exactly the reason Catholicism is hemmoraging members.

When Catholic quit making excuses like *It’s worse somewhere else*, or *They’re sinners just like us* (no they are not as most of *US* are not homosexual predators molesting kids), then maybe people will realize that Catholics and the hierarchy is serious about cleaning up the issue.

But until there’s condemnation for the actions both of the abuse and the cover up, nobody is going to take all the talk seriously.

So are you going to condemn the abuse and the cover up or are you also going to deflect the attention elsewhere and pretend that it’s not so bad because *It’s worse somewhere else*? (And you are certainly NOT the only one engaged in those tactics.

At this point, quoting the passage about the gates of hell not prevailing against the church is ludicrous.

For one thing, the gates are defensive, and what it means is that when the church attacks the gates of hell, then the gates will not be able to withstand the assault.

But not from a church in the condition Roman Catholicism is in.

It’s more like (especially for the abuse victims) the Roman Church has become the gates of hell.

Suffice it to say that not everyone, and probably only a minority, of Catholics are actively violating the 6th commandment in a given week, and those who aren’t can’t be faulted too much for not causing the rest to stop.

Go pick on Elijah and the 7000 non-idolatrous people of his day for not doing more.

The 6th commandment for Roman Catholicism, though not the OT, is thou shalt not commit adultery.

I would be willing to bet that commandment is broken by the vast majority of Roman Catholics on any given day....with this being the beginning of the weekend I bet even that number increases.

So you’re not going to condemn it, are you?

Sir,

What can I say?

Your depth of knowledge of Catholic Theology is only eclipsed by your knowledge of the sexual habits of Catholics.

While I don’t condemn it in every single post, I doubt you do either—you asked me to condemn but you didn’t;t condemn it yourself. Perhaps you need to include it in your tag line.

I have, at times on certain posts, recalled something I was taught in a Catholic seminary by a priest, namely the recommendation that millstones and the depths of the ocean were too mild a penalty for those who cause little ones to stumble might aptly be applied to incidents of this sort.

I don’t expect you to do it in every single post but your post 4 was nothing more than the usual, *It’s worse other places* type of dodging the issue post.

And I have stated on a thread recently that any involved in the abuse or cover up should publicly confess what they did, turn themselves over to the proper authorities to pay for their crime, and defrock themselves or be defrocked.

It would show genuine repentance to man up and admit what they did was wrong and take the consequences.

And besides, I have condemned it and for that I’ve been slapped with the label of *hater*.

I’m a *Catholic hater* cause I condemn the sexual abuse of minors by priests?

Shows a lot about Catholic mentality.

It would show genuine respect for justice to severely punish everyone who was guilty of abusing the innocent.

I have no patience for abusive priests, but I only have a little more patience for abusers of any type. Priests are by no means the only ones who abuse people, and those from outside who pile on priests and ignore their own problems should mind their knitting.

If your denomination has no problems of this sort, it is likely very small. If it does have problems, be sure to post them on Freepdom, with appropriate caucus settings.

Wow. What a mature post.

I'm seeing a trend though with Roman Catholics....they're not very good at debate and have to resort to juvenile posts such as this when the argument goes against them.

I’m responding to your post 10 where you stated that you were willing to bet that the majority of Catholics break the 6th commandment every day. Note that we are dealing with the sixth, not the ninth.

If you think that my retort constitutes the argument going against me, I will spell things out a little more clearly.

I must try to balance Proverbs 26:4 with 26:5. I think I did ok.

Are you saying Roman Catholics do not commit adultery....not just the physical act....but lust as defined by Christ?

If you think that my retort constitutes the argument going against me, I will spell things out a little more clearly.

I think your reply shows a lack of understanding of the issue.

I must try to balance Proverbs 26:4 with 26:5. I think I did ok.

And you continue to prove my point. But thanks for playing.
