NEW YORK -- As Yankees pitcher Sonny Gray was having yet another terrible outing Wednesday afternoon at Yankee Stadium and then laughing about it as he was pulled in the third inning with his club down six runs, an ugly part of his past was discovered on his @sonnygray2 Twitter account.
One of his tweets from 2012 paints the right-hander as a racist.
Judge for yourself:

I read where he’d said something really bad when he was in first grade.
A slight clue wouldn’t hurt.
Did Mueller signal his Army to check Tweets all Tweets ,LOL
The media is inflaming it right now on sports radio.
Who found this and why? The guys were friends, and probably this was something that had been said to one or another of them and it had become sort of a meme without the visuals.
But what I want to know is who is going out there and trying to find bad stuff in perfectly innocent tweets - and who is paying them.
If you read the interview he says he has been best friends with the other guy forever and this was an inside joke. You can’t tease your black friend about being black and visa versa? This crap about finding 3 “offensive” words from 2012 is absurd.
Whenever they “discover” something they act like 2012 or whenever was the dark ages. Things were exactly like they are now and a tweet in 2012 would have been called out if it really were racist.
I know people that have been friends for years and I even know one of his mentors.
Before you criticize, read what this kid went through in his life.
Regardless, this points up the perils of social media. I may go to my grave never having signed up for Twitter, Facebook, or the equivalent. Posting on FR is risk enough! ;)
I fear it might be a liberal blogger/”anti-racist” activist who wants to shame white athletes.
And kindergarten - that was some really nasty stuff he did like sticking his tongue out at little Sally and ...and ...and
Hmmmmm. Anyone see a pattern here? Hader, Newcombe, Trea Turner and now Sonny Gray. All white dudes with incorrect belief systems as young men.
So I am to assume that no black athlete ever conveyed a racist or politically incorrect comment on social media in their youth? No locker room talk in the locker room?
I’m throwing the bullshhtt flag on this one. I smell a lefty puke in the sports media behind all this.
The larger offense is your lazy auto-excerpting.
If you’re anything but an N word your life will be destroyed if you type the n word on to the internet at any point
This will just give the Yankees an additional excuse to release him.
there is a war going on with SJW and and alt media on the internet with the SJW using someone internet posting and tweeting history to attack people they disagree with online...in response a group has decided to hold those doing the attack to the same social media scrutiny. this started years ago but heated up when Rosanne was attacked for her tweet 6 weeks ago. that’s how come Dan Harmen was called on the carpet for his Pedo comedy video and James gun was called out for 10 years of pedophilia jokes on line using social media. now it is more in the open and a lot of people are just looking for anything to be outraged about.
this is just my opinion as a observer
Yesterday evening Trey Turner was ‘forced’ to apologize to the WORLD and all in it for an ‘inappropriate ‘tweet’ he made about 7 years ago. (Was there tweet in 2010 or so?)
Apparently, he referenced a movie character that was ‘different’ and he is/was being called out about it.
The GM made a statement on behalf of the team and one of his teammates tweeted about no matter how trivial this attitude shouldn’t prevail.
I know that I PERSONALLY pooh-paw this crap but I swear, I figured that the poor guy was going to be stripped to the waist and given a taste of the ‘cat’ between games of a doubleheader.
ALL this took place when he was in school, had nothing to do with the team, yet....
Anyone who has ever played sports knows the ‘locker room antics’ and the abuse players and teammates pile on each other. Find a weakness and your ‘buddies’ will see how much nettle you possess.
Watching him stumble through his ‘confession’ was really embarrassing ....it was difficult to watch....
I read yesterday that there is some group trying to paint MLB with a toxic masculinity brush. Maybe why all these tweets are being released.
