What I meant was I think it would have taken some time to collect myself before I could talk to anyone outside of my family.

I thought it was perhaps fitting to have this encounter with Trader Joe’s.
It was founded in Pasadena, right next to LA and my brother and I used to drive there and have a great time shopping. That was 55 years ago. Now TJs is everywhere, thankfully ... it is the cornerstone of my diet.
I am there every couple of days.
So I figured perhaps it was fitting to meet my end at Trader Joe’s. And I had a few bags of their lovely deveined shrimp and many of my beloved Green Chili Corn Tamales in the bag ... perhaps it was Nature’s message.

Glad you are alive to tell. You process something like that differently than a younger person. A similar situation for me ended with the pistol jamming. It was not too soon after that I changed my life and vowed to never live in a place that won’t allow me to leglly carry a firearm.

Dear heart, like most of your FReeper family, I wish I was closer to be able to help you in whatever way I can. Hopefully, our prayers, thoughts and words of encouragement will help you recover from this shocking event in your life. To go from an innocent day of shopping to being a hostage in a real life or death situation is something most of us will never experience. I hope you are comforted in knowing that our Lord protected you and His plans for you are good always and full of hope. Rest and trust in Him.
Not surprisingly, most people here are Liberals and when I said I would consider a conceal carry permit, the reaction was silence.
I noted that often I sat inches from a wounded assailant.

By the by, the positive spin on this experience is that California DARE NOT DENY YOU a CCW.
If they tried, go all over the media, crying and carrying on... “I’m in daily fear for my life now... I WAS A HOSTAGE ... and Sacramento just doesn’t care if I live or die....”
They’ll give you a rare California CCW just to get you off the televistion. :)
