Ask just about any diehard atheist what the most dangerous part of human nature is, and they will tell you its religion. In all honesty, this used to be me. And to be fair, religion has inspired people to commit some of the obscenest atrocities in human history; The Crusades, the German Peasants War, French Wars of Religion, and the Thirty Years War, to name a few.
But what major acts of violence have been committed by major nations in the name of religion in modern times? There have been sporadic occurrences of religious violence by the underdeveloped world. For example, the Sunni and Shia wars in the Middle East, the Nigerian Civil War, the First and Second Sudanese Civil Wars and the Lebanese Civil War were all fought over religion. However, there is now something far more malignant in human nature than religion. In the modern world, political ideology has replaced religion as the main dogma that leads people to commit heinous acts.

Political ideology killed tens of millions more people in the 20th century alone then all the “religious wars” combined.
Depends on the teaching of the particular religion or political ideology.
I can tell you which one is more powerful: Religion.
PEOPLE, in general, need to be watched. Religion is less dangerous, Id say because you have the word itself to throw into the faces of anyone running off the reservation, in the matter of Jews and Christians. In the matter of Islam...well, those words speak for themselves.
Communism and Islam are the bloodiest philosophies in history.
“Whats More Dangerous, Religion or Political Ideology?”
They are far more dangerous when melded together such as global warming as both a religion and political ideology.
Political ideology ended slavery too... and created the concepts behind our rule of law and Bill of Rights.
This is the one that so many anti-Christian liberals seem to be blinded to. It’s amazing how easy it is to shut them down, utterly and finally on this specific issue. The only response is to move the goalposts.
Zealotry
Bulls-eye.
Have to define these terms. I think that for many people politics has become their religion. Geertz wrote A religion is a system of symbols which acts to establish powerful, pervasive, and long-lasting moods in men by formulating conceptions of a general order of existence and clothing those conceptions with such an aura of factuality that the moods and motivations seem uniquely realistic. To me the dreams of the political left are just such a system of symbols.

Political ideology also signed the death warrants of tens of thousands of white South AFricans.
Neither; it’s people.
They are equally dangerous when in the hands of
True Believers.
Which grew out of the Judaic/Christian religious code.
Communism and Islam are the bloodiest philosophies in history.

Bullseye!
The Crusades were a RESPONSE to the Mooslim horde invasions, which you didn't mention, Skippy.
It depends on what religion you espouse. Jesus is the Prince of Peace, teaching His followers,”Blessed are the peace makers, for they shall be called the children of God.” Islam instructs its adherents to kill those who will not submit to Islamic rule. There is a world of difference.
The answer is political ideology... study history, “religion” only becomes deadly when it morphs into political ideology. One that demands (like Marxism, Fascism, Islam) your compliance at the point of the sword. Preachers that warn of Hell, cannot act to enforce it on you without an accompanying political ideology to make it happen. In the middle ages the punishments of the Inquisition were executed by the civil (political) authorities. #ThinkAboutIt!
