Ask just about any diehard atheist what the most dangerous part of human nature is, and they will tell you its religion. In all honesty, this used to be me. And to be fair, religion has inspired people to commit some of the obscenest atrocities in human history; The Crusades, the German Peasants War, French Wars of Religion, and the Thirty Years War, to name a few.
But what major acts of violence have been committed by major nations in the name of religion in modern times? There have been sporadic occurrences of religious violence by the underdeveloped world. For example, the Sunni and Shia wars in the Middle East, the Nigerian Civil War, the First and Second Sudanese Civil Wars and the Lebanese Civil War were all fought over religion. However, there is now something far more malignant in human nature than religion. In the modern world, political ideology has replaced religion as the main dogma that leads people to commit heinous acts.

After the Established Churches lost 1) their licenses to make kings and 2) their licenses to kill, evil people turned to robbing banks because that's where the money was. Today, evil people go into government service because that's now where the money is.
Both are dangerous.
People are crazy.
My guess is that this refers to defending against Communist aggression and Nation building.
Nicaragua, Iraq, Granada, Viet Nam, Panama.
When Leftist French intellectuals wrote “The Black Book of Communism” some years ago, they did not know they would discover that Karl Marx was the biggest mass murderer in the history of the world... since the beginning of time Communism murdered more people than any other force known to mankind.
At the time, Bill Maher had been making the case that religion and Christianity had caused more deaths than any other force in history... and The Black Book of Communism proved him completely wrong.
I recall thinking that even the title of Maher’s former tv show, “Politically Incorrect” stemmed from Soviet/ChiCom arrest laws... you were arrested for holding “politically incorrect” views and thrown in jail; and yet this term holds a campy innocuousness in our pop culture.
In any case, those lefty French reluctantly published the Black Book and it was translated into English a few years later.
Bernie fans should be sent a copy.
That figure is probably lowballing US abortion rates. Last I heard, the figure was 60 million and counting. How will we stand before the righteous Judge of the World as citizens with this much innocent blood on our hands?
Extremism is the true villain. Take any religion or ideology then take it to an extreme it was never meant to be and there’s a problem. Sadly there are far too many weak-minded souls out there just looking for something bigger than themselves to glom onto. Sometimes it’s for something good, other times, not so much.
“There is a huge difference between being religious and being Christian.”
Jesus had/has serious problems with religion.
I guess if you think of Abortion as sacrifices to the god of convenience it fits in this thread.
And of course, the Democrats have made Abortion part of their ideology.
So, I guess Abortion fits in this thread on both sides.
You make a very good point, indeed.
And like all Judeo Christians in this modern age, I tend to discount the idea that there are actual religious atheists, or “satanists” who merchandise dead baby parts and relish abortion as a sacrifice to Molech in a strictly religious sense.
Liberal ideology. It’s religion, fascism, and politics.
“Political ideology ended slavery too... and created the concepts behind our rule of law and Bill of Rights.”
That political ideology was heavily influenced by the Judeo Christian belief that man was created in God’s image. Not the king made in God’s image, not just a group of people. Rabbi Jonathan Sacks has an excellent essay on this.

A religion that’s actually a political movement that is trying to convert the whole world violently.
Tools can be used for good or evil... all tools - all weapons.
Jonathan Sacks book, “Essays on Ethics, a Weekly Reading of the Jewish Bible”, 2016, Maggid Books.
A book, not a website.
I am old school, I still read some stuff printed on dead trees.
The crusades were fought to stop the horror of Islam.
“When Leftist French intellectuals wrote “The Black Book of Communism” some years ago, they did not know they would discover that Karl Marx was the biggest mass murderer in the history of the world... since the beginning of time Communism murdered more people than any other force known to mankind.”
That’s a good question. The answer depends on what you value most -— your lifestyle or your rationality.
Stopped reading right there. Ignoramus.
