U. Minnesota may punish people who refuse to use someone’s preferred gender pronoun
The College Fix ^ | July 16, 2018 | Jennifer Kabbany

The University of Minnesota is considering a policy to discipline students or professors who refuse to call someone by their preferred gender pronoun, with penalties that could include being fired or expelled.

The draft policy under review may change, but as of now it states that “university members and units are expected to use the names, gender identities and pronouns specified to them by university members, except as legally required.”

When someone does not go along with a person whose biological sex does not match their preferred gender — such as refusing to call a biological man a woman — it is called “misgendering” and is considered harassment by secular progressives. Indeed, some have even suggested refusing to recognize someone’s preferred gender amounts to “violence.”

“I’ve come to understand after all these years of experience that calling a transgender woman a man is an act of violence,” transgender actress Laverne Cox once told an audience of college students, prompting them to applause wildly.

The proposed policy at the University of Minnesota states that misgendering someone may result in “disciplinary action up to and including termination from employment and academic sanctions up to and including academic expulsion.”

Gabrielle Mead, assistant director of the public university’s Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action office, which would oversee the new policy, told the Star-Tribune that its “intent is to be able to create more access and an inclusive environment for all of our community members regardless of their gender identity.”

The newspaper reports the proposed policy is “one of the most ambitious of its kind in the country,” but it will likely undergo revisions before it’s approved.

Several campus organizations collaborated to write the policy, including the Gender and Sexuality Center for Queer and Trans Life and the Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action office, reports the Minnesota Daily campus newspaper.

“The draft was written to address faculty concerns and improve the campus environment for gender nonconforming students. The administrative policy is currently receiving feedback from student groups and University governments – and hopes to present it to the University Senate next fall,” the Daily reports.

Meanwhile, alarm bells sound.

Joseph Konstan, a computer science professor and chair of the Faculty Consultative Committee, told the Star-Tribune the proposed policy “set off the free speech alarms immediately.”

“I don’t think it’s a controversial idea that people should be addressed as they prefer to be addressed,” Konstan said. “Where it becomes controversial is where you move from being about good behavior … into a disciplinary matter.”

The proposed policy rings similar to the controversy brewing in Canada, which added gender identity and gender expression to its discrimination laws. Some have argued that will lead to people being thrown in jail for misgendering, or at the very least it’s the start of a slippery slope and an affront to free speech rights, among other concerns.

Objections over the Canadian policy were brought to light by the University of Toronto’s Jordan Peterson, who shot to fame for his refusal to use gender-neutral pronouns.

More recently, Wilfrid Laurier University graduate student Lindsay Shepherd was investigated for overseeing a gender-neutral pronoun debate in class. She has since sued the Canadian school over the probe.

As for the University of Minnesota proposal, it is another politically correct encroachment on higher education, some argue.

“Gender nazis love to get people fired,” notes John Hinderaker of Powerlineblog. “[I]t typifies the craziness that is going on at academic institutions these days. This is one of several reasons why higher education has fallen into disrepute.”

Colleges are not teaching. They are carrying out their true mission in life: to transform this country into hell, where normal White Christian males are forced to work at menial jobs, and 60% of their earnings are taken to be given to government-certified victim groups who will continue to abuse and scorn the normal White Christian males.

My uncle from the UP of Michigan always told me Minnesota was a crazy state and their voting patterns were the proof.I cautioned my daughter against moving there.

This could be fun.

Great idea! I now identify as King Boomer so from now on everyone in Minnesota now has to call me “King” or “Your Excellency” or something equally Kingly.

It is time to realize that the strategy we need to fight back against the utter foolishness and depravity in our colleges is to go where the power and money is controlled...the university boards. Look at who these people are at the U of Minnesota and tell me they would not be “vulnerable” to some good old fashioned daylight. They and others like them thruout the country have been hiding in the shadows for too long my brothers. We need to take a page out of the leftist playbook and organize, and figure out the best approach to shove these people out into the open so they can be held accountable for the crap going on in their colleges:

https://regents.umn.edu/about-board/meet-regents

From their duties description: “(c) Appoint, monitor, advise, motivate, support, evaluate, and, if necessary or advisable, replace the president.”

We need to start talking about this. We are the good guys and we have the help of Big Guy (not just in DC, but the one upstairs)...we can turn things around. And while I’m on a roll here, let’s put this on the table just to shake up the loony leftist 3rd world egghead bedwetters (and get them ready for the future)....tenure has to go.

The Norwegian, Swedish, German immigrants to Minnesota turned that state into a Socialist swamp. A lesson to keep in mind should anyone think that we should save the Scandinavians and other Europeans from the islamic mess they created.

This is being added to our ERP. Right now, my preferred pronoun is HRH(His Royal Highness).

Okay, either gender is a completely artificial construct, or it is not. Make up your minds, leftists!

Well, it is...to their delusional suspension of reality.

My Gender is “High Lord Emperor”...which occasionally modifies to “I’m an inane imbecile, High Handsome Emperor”, when annoyed.

"… who refuse to call someone by their preferred [??? emphasis added] gender pronoun, …"

So "preferred" is now the politically correct term for mandatory?

Regarding University of Minnesota (UMN) policy, constitutionally low-information UMN officials unsurprisingly have two constitutional problems on their hands imo.

First, by promoting LGBT people as a privileged / protected class, UMN officials are unthinkingly effectively violating the Constitution's Clause 1 of Section 10 of Article I imo, which the Founding States made to prohibit state actors from establishing protected classes.

"Article I, Section 10, Clause 1: No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation; grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal; coin Money; emit Bills of Credit; make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts; pass any Bill of Attainder, ex post facto Law, or Law impairing the Obligation of Contracts, or grant any Title of Nobility [emphasis added]."

Next, UMN officials are also in violation imo of the Constitution's Section 1 of the 14th Amendment which expressly prohibits state actors from abridging rights that the states have amended the Constitution to expressly protect, 1st Amendment-protected free speech in this case.

14th Amendment:

H O W E V E R …

What anti-Constitution activist UMN officials have in their favor regarding their violations of constitutionally enumerated protections is this. The corrupt, post-17th Amendment ratification Congress left over from the lawless Obama Administration has a track record for wrongly remaining silent instead of doing its duty to make punitive laws that discourage activist state actors from abridging constitutionally enumerated protections.

The remedy for Constitution-ignoring federal and state governments …

Patriots need to finish the job that they started when they elected Trump president.

More specifically, patriots now need to be making sure that there are plenty of Trump-supporting candidates on the 2018 primary ballots, candidates who will be willing to make laws to punish state actors who couldn't care less about our enumerated protections.

Patriots then need to pink-slip career lawmakers by sending patriot candidate lawmakers to DC on election day so they can start supporting Trump in weeding the constitutionally enumerated rights abusers out of the system.

And until the states wise up and repeal the ill-conceived 17th Amendment, as evidenced by concerns about the integrity of the outcome of Alabama's and Pennsylvania's special elections, patriot candidates need to win elections by a large enough margin to compensate for the following concerns.

“When someone does not go along with a person whose biological sex does not match their preferred gender — such as refusing to call a biological man a woman”

This statement is the definition of delusion and insanity. I’m to accept under penalty of law what someone thinks of themselves over what my lying eyes sees.

So I’m supposed to call skinny a fat broad simply because she prefers to be skinny!?
