There will be no names on the hundreds of resumés the hiring committee of a Toronto law firm sifts through this summer.
Lenczner Slaght plans to remove every name from every resumé submitted as part of the 2019 summer student hiring process, which begins next month and will see upwards of 450 candidates whittled down to fewer than 10 hires.
Its an attempt to prevent unconscious bias from seeping into hiring decisions and knocking white women and men and women of colour out of the running on the basis of non-white and non-male sounding names....

and when they still hire mostly white men because they have the largest experience base on their resumes, by and large?

start scrubbing the resumes of experience from the better qualified?
The last thing the left wants is a color blind society because they don’t believe some groups can compete on a level playing field. Their own kind of racism.
Remove all distinguishing characteristics. Pull the hires’ names out of a hat.
It’s would be all anonymous—a kind of Glory Hole Hiring.
But, that’s wouldn’t be good enough, because detail-blind hiring would only result in race-proportional representation ... they want to invert the normal order of things, regardless of merit. Racial spoils.
Looks like we are going to need two walls.
Scrubbing names isn’t enough.
I can’t speak to Canadian universities, but, there can be bias if you see what school someone attended.
For example, someone from Howard or another historically black university is likely to be black.
Someone from Brigham Young is probably Mormon.
Someone from Harvard may have stereotypes surrounding his/her background, because even though ivy league universities have presitge, some employers may actually discriminate against them, to gsin greater diversity.
If addresses are in a resume or application, certain assumptions msy he made regarding what osrt of town an applicant lives in..
I hope it’s 100% white males that are selected. It would drive them insane! They would then have to go back and do their pick the race/sex winning lotto by intentionally trashing all of white men on the list . Hahahaha
Years ago, before PCs in the office, I had a consulting project to try to reduce turnover in the customer service department for a utility in Georgia. I developed a 'weighted application blank. We got it down to two variables - you would be hired if you spent 2 or more years at your previous job, and you lived in the same residence for more than 2 years. While it did reduce turnover, it also excluded about 75% of Black applicants. We had to scrap it.
Profiling works.
Canada isn't the United States. They're not just letting anyone in. Canada's immigration generosity extends primarily to those refugees who speak fluent english and possess engineering degrees.
They tried this before and everytime it actually decreases ‘diversity’ so I say go for it.

If they’re a private company they can (should be able to) hire whomever they want based on whatever criteria they choose.
They sink or swim based on the decisions they make.
Yes, if you are forced to hire people without due discrimination, diversity will increase, as will your troubles.

Agreed. When the resume contains references to degrees in Womyn’s Studies or internships at the Southern Poverty Law Center, you’ll have all you will need to know.
