Wouldn’t it be cheaper to just buy new crayons?

Wouldn’t it be cheaper to just buy new crayons?

A woman named Emily Skopov started a non-profit organization called No Crayon Left Behind.

The charity collects used crayons from restaurants and other organizations and gives them to people who can’t afford them.

When the collected crayons are misshapen, Skopov melts them down on her own stove and molds them into new crayons.

Skopov said she spends spends approximately 45 hours a week volunteering for No Crayon Left Behind.

In addition, she hired a consultant and has a paid staff as well.

She also rents an office.

Skopov said of her endeavor:

“I purposely haven’t kept track of how much I’ve spent because it would freak me out, but it’s got to be thousands of dollars.”

Meanwhile, Wal-Mart sells a box of 64 brand new crayons for $2.94.

So here’s my question: Wouldn’t it be cheaper to just buy new crayons?

First thing a liberal does is hire staff, an office, computers, supplies on taxpayers dime, then do the things they’re supposed to on the ten percent of funds that are left.

Just the gas alone to go get crayons from one location would cost more than a whole box.

Is this one of those made-up stories that get planted in the news to see who falls for it?

I bet democrats want to start a new government program for this, though.

Human interest story with no real-world relevance.

Yep. Sounds like a good way to separate the gullible from their money.

I was thinking of going door to door to get people’s Keurig cups to do something with them, you know, for the poor. How about using hot glue and making them into platform shoes for the poor?

yes cheaper to buy crayons new, but there is likely other things going on behind the scenes at this “non profit” org that benefits the fonder and others. plus it gets tax exempt status and maybe grants etc.

She wants to be seen as a benign, female Robin Hood.

‘money-mad’
capitalists, and giving them back to the community, free of charge! Spreading the wealth, as it were.

Hope she has a lot of Febreeze available in her apartment after melting all that dyed wax. Volunteers may even get ‘Wax-Lung’ if it existed.

gives them to people who can’t afford them.
C'mon, in today's America there are people who can't afford a dollar box of crayons?
BS.

Maybe she sends them overseas? But still, cheaper to buy a box of crayons.

It’s not about the crayons, it’s about the virtue signaling and the need to get kudos from her fellow leftists.

If one buys school supplies at this time of year one can buy them all for a fraction of the regular cost. Right now Office Depot/Office Max has boxes of Crayola 24 pack crayons for sale for $.50. They have Crayola markers for $1. They have notebooks for $.25. And more. Staples has sales as well, as does Walmart, Target, Family Dollar, and Dollar. There is no need to melt down crayons while paying yourself and staff a salary. I could be wrong, but it sounds like yet another poverty pimp working in the Poverty industrial complex.

It’s about the *feelings* not the crayons. A bizarre world-view I can’t relate to, but some people will squander vast resources out of a desire to deify themselves in their own mind.
