The debate over the 9mm and .45 ACP is one of the most talked about in the firearms community.
Both handguns/calibers have a huge following thanks to their popularity and success in the field.
9mm vs .45 ACP Match Ups
One of the biggest mistake that most people make is taking a black-and-white stance (only looking at ballistics stats) on the .45 ACP and 9mm.
Many will say that the .45 is better because it shoots a bigger caliber bullet, or that the 9mm is better because of its higher magazine capacity.
Both points are spot on and provide good reasons to prefer one over the other.
Even if you think more bullets is better, you have to admit having bigger bullets with more bullets on tap are both worthy considerations when choosing one gun over the other.
If you look at the bigger picture is that neither gun has a total advantage over the other one, and your own preferences will play a lot in determining which handgun is for you. Read the rest of this 9mm vs 45 story here. Which do you carry?
I split the difference and prefer a 40. More energy than a 9, but easier (for me at least) to shoot accurately than a 45.
My Brother does all the reloading so I like both
Bullet Weight: 180 Grains
Bullet Style: Speer Bonded Jacketed Hollow Point
Case Type: Ducta-Bright 7a Nickel Plated Brass
Muzzle Velocity: 1300 fps
Muzzle Energy: 676 ft lbs
The .45 ACP was designed to put down a crazed moslem Juramentado when it was found the .38 Colt (not a .38 Spl) could not.
I have both. I have far more 9mm though because I collect old military sidearms.
Essential pistol ammo
.22LR
9mm
.38/.357
44 mag if in big bear country
.45
Have them all
Great slow action pic btw
The eternal battle...
I carried a 1911 in .45 acp for over 40 years. With the advent of carpal tunnel syndrome in both wrists, I had to put the .45s in the safe and go to a 9mm. A man has to know his limitations.
I retire (again) in 19 months. Carrying a firearm is necessary.
I will add that managing my ammo on the range is a lot easier with 17 round magazines vs 7 round magazines.
Just get both.
They say the same thing about knives. You're not in a knife fight, you're in a fight, with a knife. Most untrained people fighting with a knife fight only with or primarily with the knife. You have a whole 'nuther arm, feet/legs...
Winchester 147 grain ranger Talon. Can’t beat it.
I can carry 16 rounds of those puppies in my sub compact sigsauer P2 50.
If somebody gets shot in the big toe with a pellet gun fights over In most cases. People are prone to pain avoidance.
Amazing how that works.
.45 guy here too, only 4” instead of 5”. I use to call it my winter gun, a compact 9mm being my summer gun, but then I found the perfect IWB holster for the .45. Now she’s my best girl. Never leave home without her.
I always loved the scene in the movie Sargent York where Gary Cooper was waving his 1911 around ordering the Germans to surrender and ordering them to line up “over yonder”.
Good enough for Alvin; good enough for me.
