IIRC, the Awans were used by the DNC for IT work. My guess is they determined Rich was the leaker and reported him to Podesta, the rest being history.

The judge in this case is Tanya Chutkan, who was recused (removed) from another case related to Fusion GPS a few months back. They may need to remove her from this case, as well.
