Tactical Surfing down a Staircase
Am Shooting Journal ^ | 6/4/2018 | J Hines

Posted on 06/04/2018 5:21:35 AM PDT by w1n1

When you think of tactical movements with guns, you would think of deliberate movements, covering all angle and cool postures.
Tactical movements down a staircase should be just that, however, these guys from Russian Systema Serbia may know something that we in the U.S. don't.
These Russians are surfing down a stair case.
The first thing that comes up is how practical is this? And, why and when would you ever do this?
Other than to look cool.

Anyways its still fun to watch Not sure why tactical school is teaching this technique, but it's definitely strange to say the least. See the tactical surfing here.

Legolas the Elf did this at the Battle of Helm’s Deep in one of Peter Jackson’s wretched LOTR movies.

Best with a “slippery material” sleeping bag.

When I was in college, I sliced my right pinky open while re-glazing a window.

Lot’s of blood.

The next day, I walked outside in the rain. The front porch of the house I was in has about 8 steps to the ground. It was painted concrete and unknown to me at the time, really slippery. The fall wasn’t that painful, but I ended up ripping about 1/4” off the tip of my left pinky. I was about useless at work for the next few days. Every time I turned around, one or the other would start bleeding again.

Well, if someone from above is pursuing you but cautious not to put too much of his body beyond the from-below horizon of the top stair, this would certainly keep your body low and make the pursuer have to come more forward toward the stairs to see you on them. But unless you’re ready to shoot back up toward the pursuer while you “surf” down, as a couple of the surfers were doing with pistol and rifle, this would certainly make you an easier target to shoot at if the pursuer just continued forward to the top stair area. Further, the angle a shooter would be hitting your body with (frontward and from foot toward head, for sliding down head first, or backward and from head toward feet for sliding down feet first), means that many more potentially fatal or disabling structures (organs, vessels, bones and spine) could be hit with a single shot, versus a straight forward or straight backward shot through the chest or an extremity for a person walking/running down the stairs); compare: upright, shot in back, exits at chest only slightly higher, maybe just lung hit, vs. lying down face forward with shot hitting buttock and exiting uppermost chest, hits pelvis, kidney, liver, lung—more damage, more bleeding. I would think this would just be a gimmicky movie type idea, not a truly useful tactic.

In an emergency, I get the concept, but I hope the guy is wearing a cup if he’s going to surf the staircase face down.

/ouch

Same here. Also sent my little sister down in an empty laundry basket. Then we moved on to jumping down the stairs.

Oh, the days before video games and cell phones!
