NYPD seizes gun collection, ‘unprecedented’ amount of ammo (PHOTOS)

The guns and ammo were found in the basement of a 60-year-old man’s home in Queens after a search warrant (Photos: NYPD)

Officers with the 81st Precinct in the Bayside area of Queens seized over 60 guns and quantity of ammunition from an area man after a tip about illegal weapons.

Queens District Attorney Richard Brown announced Monday that Ronald Drabman, 60, was arrested over the weekend and charged with a staggering 110 weapons violations, mostly for criminal possession. Following a search warrant of his home’s basement, authorities seized 45 long arms, 23 pistols, a zip gun, a couple of airguns and 50,000 rounds of ammunition.

“The defendant is accused of using his home as a warehouse for illegal firearms – along with tens of thousands of rounds of live ammunition,” Brown said. “This stockpile of weapons poses a great risk to the residents of Queens. It is extremely disturbing to find such an arsenal of firearms in a residential community.”

NYPD Chief of Intelligence Thomas Galati said the gun bust was one of the largest in the department’s history from a single individual and well as what he described as an “unprecedented amount of ammunition.”

The firearms shown off at the conference included a number of collectible arms or at least guns rarely seen in Queens. Among these are an AR with what looks like a Colt Light Machine Gun front end, a Mossberg bullpup shotgun, and a Franchi SPAS-12. One of the rifles seems to be a fairly rare Italian BM59 in a Nigerian pistol grip stock while a Mauser 1934 Pocket Model, Walther P-38, and a Browning Hi-Power rest on table display of pistols.

Will this obvious abuse of power in the confiscation of this man's firearms be the "shot heard around the world"?

I wonder if those who predict the coming CW-II will be coming to this guy's aid? Or maybe they can't get the time off work..........

“A staggering 110 weapons”

They must have been really loaded.

The Thompson appears to be the modern 16” barrel semi auto.

"...Or maybe can’t get the time off work..."

You are precisely correct, that is why that whole Civil War II yammering is such silly nonsense.
If police cannot get enough firearm charges to stick, my bet is child porn has already been planted on his computer as an insurance policy.

FWIW, I’m not sure I would call the arrest of Mr. Drabman an “obvious abuse of power,” at least at this point in time. And it seems to be a stretch, to suggest that such an arrest has any potential to spark a civil war. On the other hand, Mr. Lincoln considered Southern threats to secede to be nothing more than yammering & silly nonsense, and that peculiar blindness actually helped precipitate the costliest war in American history...

Can’t be sure from the photo, but the Thompson barrel is pretty long. It might be a 16” barrel semi-auto version that is legal in most places. I believe the classic fully-auto guns had 12” barrels, thus making them two-fers under the NFA; machine guns and short-barreled rifles.

If only we had federal preemption of firearms laws, or maybe a constitutional amendment that would do away with this patchwork of local laws! {/s}

Wonder what became of Charlton Heston’s collection after he passed?

Anyway, not an NFA or illegal looking gun in that stash. Too bad they’ll all be destroyed, no, purloined into those grinning police officials’ private collections. They’re not that stupid.

Looks like the guy is getting started on a good,-sized gun collection. I did not know about the limits on ammunition. So this guy must have really shot something up, huh? Is there actually anything illegal about his collection?

I would agree with you. The question I am raising is what would it take for all the tough talking bravados to take up arms in a 2nd civil war?

My contention is nothing. They've got too much tied up in their jobs, their mortgages, their car payments and their kid's weekend soccer practice............

Nobody flocked to Klamath Falls to help the farmers with their fight against the federal govt. on water rights.

Nobody flocked to help Ammon Bundy in his standoff against the BLM, and nobody rose up in protest against the killing of LaVoy Finicum as a result of that standoff.........

IOW, there ain't gonna be no second civil war...........

From what I’ve read of the article, it appears to be illegal to own guns and ammo in Queens, NewYork. Did they miss that whole revolution thing?

...not an NFA or illegal looking gun in that stash.

You might take another look. 1st photo, firearms on the floor, 2nd column from the left: 3 or 4 possible SBRs, which I'm guessing are unlikely to have received approval in NY...

...although the one with the forward grip might be an AOW, rather than SBR...

No, the Colt LMG was a super heavy barreled variant with a belt fed upper configuration and a squared handguard, but yes, plus a bipod located below the front sight assembly.

Added:

It is the left most AR type rifle on the table showing two ARs on bipods plus others lying on their side. It also has an FNAL looking carry handle to the left of the handguard.

from the picture, it simply looks like a semi-auto AR with the heavy bbl and handguard config.

Spot-on correct, Hot Tabasco.

By our very nature, mature Conservatives have far more to risk than unstable Leftwingers. That is also what makes us reliable, predictable, rational, and trustworthy.

The biggest disadvantage is it places us squarely in the “frog slowly boiling in the pot” situation.
We tend to mostly be individualists who travel in much smaller packs of family and tight-knit friends. That unfortunately makes our “numbers” appear smaller than they are in reality.

Maybe SBR’s, but apparently no full autos. How did the po-po know about this stash? Snitch hotline? 4473’s? Liberal neighbor?

Anyway, in my small Southern state we have a word to describe this collector: “piker”.

Is the ar15 in the 3rd pic in front of the ar15 with the bipod illegal? (Well I guess every gun is illegal in NY.) I thought they would have to be registered as a pistol? It is a very short barrel. Only some states or all?
