PBS NEWSHOUR: Syndicated columnist Mark Shields and New York Times columnist David Brooks join Judy Woodruff to discuss the weeks news, including Secretary of State Rex Tillersons firing amid a wave of rumors about a wider Cabinet shakeup, Pennsylvanias stunning election upset and Sen. Jeff Flakes comments about 2020.
Brooks, who identifies as a conservative, lamented that Trump is "anti-system" and won't work through what he said is the "vast apparatus" in the White House.
"Trump is getting Trumpier, and the administration is getting Trumpier," Brooks said. ....
(snip)
The scribe said he has spent much time with Trump supporters in the last week and tried to rationalize why Trump "still" has a 90% approval rating among Republicans. Brooks determined that these people "have tuned in out" in regards to hirings and firings. He found that they support the administration and "like the big things about it" such as the tax bill.
Unable to process how one could support Trump, Brooks said he consistently asks "them" a line of "what about" questions.
"They have tuned it out," he said of the Trump supporter. "They support the administration. They like the big things about it, the tax bill, the deregulation, that kind of thing. And I always ask them, what about this, what about this, the things we frankly talk about a lot every week."
"It just sort of drifts by them unnoticed," Brooks observed. "And so if you want to know why hes still got 90 percent approval roughly among Republicans, I think thats the answer. A lot of things that would cause most people to shake their heads.
He said what Trump does just doesn't "rise to the level of consciousness" of a Trump supporter.

We are tuning out the Cheap Labor Express propagandists in the Ministry of Propaganda like David Brooks.
They can’t stand it.
Faux-conservative David Brooks is little more than a jabbering clown with thin academic credentials. And PBS has a penchant for picking such faux-conservative clowns supposedly to represent “conservative” ideas.
Back in the 90s, PBS also employed the false “conservative” David Gergen as a supposed “Republican” alternative to the Demo Mark Shields all the while during the 1992 presidential election campaign Gergen was negotiating a position with the Clinton crowd. Characteristically, on PBS Gergen couldn’t bad-mouth Bush I enough. Gergen now has some position at the Kennedy School at Harvard; I saw the mumbling weasel several times when I was working on a book at Harvard fifteen or so years ago.
During the election 1992 campaign another favourite featured on PBS was the utterly repulsive left-lib shill Bill Moyers. Yes, PBS has a lot to answer for. . . . Defund PBS!
David Brooks and David Frum are two of the same ilk. They are irksome as mold on cheese. And for all the “properness” of their position, they’re statements are as empty and irrelevant as their suits. Who wants to listen to them! Brooks, case in point, doesn’t even know himself — he doesn’t know that he doesn’t know. (Classic projection.) And he’s not even the slightest bit curious to know that he doesn’t know. His predictions have been totally wrong for years and you would think that he would take stock of his errors... show some humility at least. But the truth is — truth is out and pushing a narrative is in. He has invested in a narrative that has clouded and defined his judgement. He’s not alone and gets paid big money to be irrelevant within the DC establishment vacuum. Some would say that is making it!
Yep - and that's what we the People voted for....
Ah, you bring up the names of some repulsive fakers, for sure.
......
...PBS has a lot to answer for. . . . Defund PBS!
......
Most definitely.
Add in the NYT praise and backing of Castro back in the late 50s
Brooks may have to join Stephanopolous on suicide watch when this Deep State really starts to unravel.
All of their ‘establishment’ heroes are going down, IMO.
As my Dad would say: “Here taste is all in her mouth’.
Thanks to you for this exhaustive take-down of the faux-conservative clown David Brooks (of the thin academic credentials and in desperate need of some serious dental work). Cheers,
Funny how the Dems & ‘establishment’ Republicans didn’t seem to give a darn about all of Bill Clinton’s sexual attacks on women. They think that every time Trump even smiles at a woman, he is engaged in something taudry.
Clinton has been a sexual predator since he was a teenager, and still is. How about a real expose’ about that, Brooks???
Trump got elected on ‘anti-system’. 18 months later, and Brooks is till trying to figure things out.
That is a perfect reason why the taxpayer $$$ given to PBS needs to stop. THEY are the only outlet that will pay him.
Are there any charges that can be brought against Brooks? Has he helped in any kind of ‘Obstruction of Justice’ against the Dems?
Help me out: Did Idiot David Brooks have any problems or issues when the White House became more Obamaier?
Brooks is a NE-living bubble boy! He has no clue outside the city limits of NYC.
That image of David Brooks with his new wife reminds one not to skip on regular dentist appointments.
Doesn’t say much for her judgment...
:)
