Federal government has overreached in cracking down on the opioid overdose epidemic. In order to cut off the supply of prescription drugs falling into the wrong hands, new regulations have crippled the ability of our doctors
To understand how the government has stepped over the line with their current crackdown on primary healthcare physicians, we must look at how the politicians responded to the opioid crisis when it first reared its ugly head.
In the late 1990s, pharmaceutical companies reassured the medical community that patients would not become addicted to opioid pain relievers and encouraged healthcare providers to prescribe them at greater rates. All the more profits for the Big Pharma shareholders, right?
And now those that have a legit use of them have to go to A FRICKING PAIN CLINIC AND PAY REDICULIOUS PRICES TO GET THEM...
The typical, Big-government knee-jerk reactionary “action”.... which punishes law-abiding citizens while doing nothing substantive to stop the problem supposedly being addressed.
Same song, different verse (and yet another set of those victimized by the misguided efforts).
The opiod issue is legitimate. It is crippling entire communities. It is destroying families faster than alcohol abuse. And it is now becoming a major cause of death.
But just like every other “crisis” - the government’s efforts are mis-directed and heavy-handed, all while doing nothing to actually take these drugs out of the hands of abusers - but making it more expensive and difficult for those who genuinely need these drugs.
The real problem - big pharma developed these effective painkillers and then sold them as safe and non-addictive. Sorry - but chemistry and biology say another thing - what part of “opiod” do they not seem to grasp? Oh -wait - they KNEW.
In fact, the conspiracy theorist might (justifiably) surmise that this was every bit as engineered and designed to entrap/enslave/addict users as the science and chemistry that went in to big tobacco’s product development.
I’m glad I kept my refill leftovers.
I probably have a million dollars worth in my pantry.
Well, not nearly that much, but I’ve got quite a few.
They don’t work for me,.
Pain management clinics are under the gun and have been, since obamacare. They’re all being made to decrease pain meds to a level that’s usually sub-therapeutic.
I remember about 1985 or thereabouts when the new drug cocaine hit the news cycle. It was initially reported as being safe and non-addictive. I also remember saying to my wife: “BULLSHIT!”
You mean ‘crack’.
Cocaine is over a hundred years old.
And all the more so cause they KNEW they were addictive and that very addition would be sure to keep the gravy train going.
Docs hooked my EX wife on them, ruining her.
Docs tried to give Oxy to my mom after knee surgery, and I about bit their heads off. Damned if I’ll lose another loved one to opiates.
