Vintage Iconic Colt Model 1911

The Colt Model 1911 has a really long lifespan. I can remember when I first qualified on the 1911 while in the military. This may sound cheesy, but it was a huge accomplishment for myself with no pistol shooting experience at the time.
What I also love was seeing those old WWII training footage back in the day.

You'll notice this footage is very similar to the FBI pistol training and utilizing Col. Rex Applegate combat shooting methods for close quarter combat.
Maybe I’m just old school but I like the tradition that these bad boys 1911 have gone through.
Hats off to History TV Facebook for posting these time capsule footage of such an iconic weapon. See the full vintage iconic Colt Model 1911 footage here.

In the thumbnail video above, I like the ‘tracer’ lines scratched into the film in post-production to show the path of the bullets fired.

On second thought, after watching the full video, I think those are genuine tracers.

.45 ACP tracer ammo was/is red...which, in B&W films, shows as primarily black or a shade thereof.

I know for a fact that some training films of the '50's and '60's were modified to enhance the effect...so, yeah, I agree with you, they are probably tracers, but modified on the film.

The GI tracers were intended primarily for a marking round, much like we'd use a laser today.

They had a tendency to burn out barrels with too much use, so they were discouraged.

And unit armorers would cry and moan to the old man every time he found tracers had been used on free-fire exercises.

'Course...that was in the day that rounds of all types were not as tightly controlled.

There were always guys rummaging in the bunkers for something fun to shoot...I remember tracers, armor-piercing and very effective blanks.

Do the bullet manufacturers make tracer rounds today for hand gun weapons?

Have seen that video, and it is very interesting. Especially like the tracers that seem to show up better on the black and white footage.

Yes, they still do make tracer. An AmmoSeek search for .45 ACP tracer shows four sources:

A search for the more popular 9mm shows five:
