In advance of an Anglo-French summit this week, French President Emmanuel Macron officially offered to loan the Bayeux Tapestry to Britain. The tapestry depicts the campaign that culminated in the victory at the Battle of Hastings in 1066 of William the Conqueror the duke of Normandy and later king of England over Harold Godwinson, the last of the Anglo-Saxon kings. It suits the martial setting of the conference, to be held at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst near London, and its focus on Anglo-French defense cooperation.
More broadly, however, the loan of the tapestry is a fitting diplomatic gesture: It symbolizes who Macron is and what he wants to do at home and abroad.

As French President Emmanuel Macron wrapped up his first official visit to China, there are signs that Beijing's relationship with Europe is shifting. The French politician's first official visit to China is notable for coming as other leaders of the Western world struggle domestically. In fact, Macron appeared as "perhaps the leader of Europe at this very moment" said Philippe le Corre, a research fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School.

He is definitely a step up for France...but he lacks the level of resolve and courage of conviction of Trump.
Macron is too wishy washy on social issues and the need to restore respect for civic faith in France. Still too much of a secularist in my view.
Europe is held back by its penchant for climate change dogma, anti-Israel stances (even though Macron is trying to address anti-Semitism), social liberalism, etc...
And England still has all your furniture in The Bloody Tower....

His relationship with the former Brigitte Trogneux is instructive. I can understand an 18 year old having an affair with a 42 year old woman. Lots of fun. But to marry her? Is she his beard? Is she a replacement for his mother? What is the story here?
Dear former Canadian,
re: “His relationship with the former Brigitte Trogneux is instructive. I can understand an 18 year old having an affair with a 42 year old woman. Lots of fun. But to marry her? Is she his beard? Is she a replacement for his mother? What is the story here?”
1. Yes, he did. 2.Yes, she is. 3. It seems, and demonstrates the answer, is yes. 4. With the emasculation of ‘Old Europe’, it had to be demonstrated, ahem, ‘somewhere’, so good old France won the lottery, since Germany already has ‘a big mama’.
Geopolitical and economically, I think Macron is the right man at the right time for France and by extension the EU. Everything else he should deal with adequately, will probably be on the stage a while and maybe a repeat performance.
Trump seems to like him.
“Trump seems to like him.”
The feeling seems to be mutual. :)
And I agree with you.
A lot of Catholics and Christians within France have been praying and interceding on behalf of their country. God is on the move!
