Henry Repeating Arms have had a dip in popularity and sales from 2014 to 2016. But since last January (2017) the sales and popularity is up at plus or minus 100%. (source: Google Trends)
One big popular rifle among cowboys and hunters is the Henry Repeating in 44 magnum. So why is it that its such an awesome rifle?
Here's some reason why:
Its Accurate
Straight out of the box with 44 mag loads you can zero in at 100 yards with 3-inch groups, if you’re a decent shot on a stable platform.
Slick Operation
In other words the rifle is quick and slick, everything on it when working the lever is just smooth. Quick when working the lever for the next round.
Low Recoil

Wife let me add one to my personal arsenal for Christmas. If I ever get over the crud I’ll take it out to my favorite shooting spot and run it through it’s paces. It is a really nice looking rifle.
Along with my old Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 Magnum it should work as a pretty good bear repellent in our part of middle of nowhere Idaho.
I have never been able to get past my dislike of the tube loading. It seems like during the time of loading you are in a vulnerable position where the mechanism could be damaged beyond repair if it were bent. With a side gate loading mechanism you can refresh the “magazine” as opportunity arises without waiting to do the whole thing.

Got a Big Boy in .44 magnum and a Youth Gun in .22 (wife prefers the shorter stock). Both are older (5+ years old) models but well made and accurate. A mountain neighbor has a Golden Boy in .22 magnum which serves as his “go to” gun for raccoons. Can say nothing bad about Henry rifles and may try their .22 pump for plinking after my old Winchester pump retires.
I’ve got a .22 and after break-in it’s smooth as silk.
I’m still considering a .357.
Get yourself one, you won’t regret it. Only issue with the .357 is to make sure your cartridges are long enough. You can run .38 specials in it as long as they are round nose.
.38’s are a smidgen shorter than .357’s? Why would it matter? They don’t chamber correctly?
My son gave me the Philmont Edition .22cal for Christmas a couple of years ago as a memory from our first backpacking trip to Philmont Scout Ranch. I can’t bring myself to shoot it, though. I’m thinking about giving him the Eagle Edition to commemorate his 20 year anniversary as an Eagle Scout this year. Now I see that is available in both .22LR and .44 Magnum so I’m going to have to make a choice.
I’ve got a Rossi 1892 20” in 44 and it shoots better than 3” groups for sure.
Philmont is in a beautiful place. I have done the fishing at Vermejo park a few times over the years.
I was born in Raton and grew up outside Trinidad, CO. Its easy to take the scenery for granted when you live there.
I had a Youth Model in .22 LR when Lurker Jr was going. We both loved it.

Two Christmases ago, my wife surprised me with a Big Boy in .45 Long Colt! She just requested the catalog, handed it to me, and told me to mark ideas for birthday and Christmas gifts.

I’ve got a Henry Golden Boy in .17 HMR, love it, the kick is more like a kiss, and it’s extremely accurate.
