Bolivian President Evo Morales met with German and Swiss officials in Bern, Switzerland, on December 14 to sign an agreement on building one of the largest infrastructure projects of the centurya coast-to-coast railroad across South America.
The Central Bi-Oceanic Railway Corridor, or Panama Canal on Railway Tracks, will stretch from the Pacific coast of Peru, through Bolivia, and across Brazil to the Atlantic Ocean. The total length of the projected route is 2,333 miles.
Paraguay, Argentina and Uruguay also plan to add connection routes to the corridor.
Germany and Switzerland will assist in the ambitious projects construction and will also provide building materials and maintenance.
Since Bolivia is landlocked, it has been particularly eager to see the project completed. The Bolivians hope the completed railway will position their nation as the heart of South America.
In Bern, President Morales met with Germanys state secretary of Transport, Building and Urban Development, as well as representatives of German and Swiss railway companies. Following the meeting, he tweeted, Our meeting with the Swiss-German consortium was very productive. He also said that the final draft of the project will be ready to sign next month.
It is a project with consequences that reach far beyond the economy, said José Alberti, an economist with Bolivias cadex export firm. It will have a major impact on society, as it will also create many new jobs.
The transcontinental railway is an important geostrategic project for South American countries, Alberti told Deutsche Welle. It will improve integration and infrastructures on the continent, he said, adding that it will also foster transatlantic networking.
This final statement indicates what the Europeans stand to gain from throwing their support behind the Central Bi-Oceanic Railway Corridor: greater access to South Americas markets and resources.
The Trumpet and our forerunner magazine the Plain Truth have warned for more than 50 years that a German-led European bloc would come to dominate Latin America, to the detriment of the United States.
Back in October 1957, the Plain Truth said that Europe and South America are religious, commercial and political partners. In May 1962, it declared that the United States is going to be left out in the cold as two gigantic trade blocs, Europe and Latin America, mesh together and begin calling the shots in world commerce.
More recently, Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry has said that the connection between Europe and Latin America will cement due mainly to their common religion and languages. And what’s wrong with building there? It’s a pain in the butt to get around when I drive to South America.
Don’t ask the US to contribute. We’ve already done more than anyone else.

I like the idea of maintaining the Darien Gap as a natural “first line of defense” or “fence” if you will.
Can you imagine how many more “Migrants” from S. America would be in our Country if that passage were as easy as getting in a car and driving here?

Sort defeats the purpose of a canal. You still have to off-load and reload ships. Fine for transport to the interior, but I don’t see the purpose as an inter-ocean connector.
I remember as a lad in the ‘50s reading in the Weekly Reader about the Pan American highway that was being built that would enable one to drive from Canada all the way to the tip of South America. And today, you almost can, except for what looks like a very short distance in Panama. But I imagine (I haven’t been there) that on the ground, it looks like an impossible task. Costa Rica has a terrible time keeping its mountainous roads passible.
This project makes absolutely no sense.
Is it standard gauge? If it is, I’d love to see a standard gauge railroad connecting Mexico (and in affect US and Canada) down Central America (connecting with the KCS Panama Canal Railroad) to the railroad. It would be nice for getting people jobs..
This is a consultants hallucination and will never happen. Germany has not one submarine that can put to sea and only 12 Battle tanks and could not stop a troop of cub scouts coming across it’s border. This deal will cost trillions.
The US must recoup the 5 trillion it blew in Afghanistan and IraQ. And, it’s highly unlikely they will rope Trump into this.
Just for unavailability of THIS MUCH capital alone, This deal will never happen and that’s before you get into the enormous challenges of building something like this starting with “security”. Who’s going to provide that? How much will this INCREASE the cost of goods? “Corruption” alone in these countries is a way of life. And, on and on................
Of course, that last one is pretty free-enterprise, so maybe socialists won't like it, but still; a modern railroad with limited access rights seems very 1% in nature.
