The Greatest Action Movies of All Time
Am Shooting Journal ^ | 11/14/2017 | J Hines

The greatest action movies of all time starring some of the best action stars to have ever fought on screen. The best action movies tend to be the ones where we get a little substance to go along with the shooting; a little banter along with the battles. This list has some of the most awesome action films of all time.

This list of greatest action movies ever has a mix of one man renegades (Die Hard), extraterrestrial thrills (Alien), and science fiction dreams brought to reality on the big screen (Terminator, Jurassic Park).

You’ll even find some great comedic performances among the gun fights, smack talking, and explosions. Heck, you could probably fill a New Jersey size dump with all the stuff that gets blown up in these action films.

The list covers a broad time range as well with nearly as many classic action movies making the list as newer, big budget CGI action-fest. This is a fan ranked list compiled from Reddit and Ranker, not based from IMDB. Without further adieu these are the greatest action films:

What other action movies would you add or what's your list? See the rest of our action movies of all time list here.

The usage was (from the OP):

Without further adieu these are the greatest action films:

"Without further ado" is a colloquialism that means no further delay. Adieu means goodbye in French. Ado means "busy activity; bustle; fuss."

The correct usage is "without further ado."

Wrong. “Adieu” is French for “to God.” It means goodbye or farewell.

“Ado” means chaos or turmoil.

“Ado” is the proper usage here.

“Casino” is a classic and Devo’s version of “Satisfaction”

Can’t recall that song in the movie. Whip It is though.

Completely agree with Heat shoot out. Has got to be the greatest ever. Mann tried to do it again in Miami Vice but is wasn’t close.

A rather subjective list and most are recent movies in the last 30 years.

The other night I was watching “The Guns of Navarone”, the other day “Where Eagles Dare”. There are just a large number of good action movies out there.

Any John Woo action films from Hong Kong are pretty good, especially those with Yun Fat-Chow.

That role was written especially for Richard Burton. Around that time Burton wanted to go into a new direction and do an action film. Alistair MacLean wrote that script for Burton.
Burton’s kids wanted him to do an action war movie and this was the one. It took Burton on a new direction. Big hit in 1968.

I know what adieu is, and it's the wrong word for this context. The phrase is, 'Without further ado'.

And, a 170 IQ is pretty much proof that I am not an idiot. Idiot.

Therefore, I bid you adieu.

Much ado about nothing.

Just sayin.

Wow, you are quite toxic...

Who fn’ cares whether it’s ado or adieu or whatever...has nothing to do with the subject. And if something petty like that sets you off, perhaps you should pick up something less stressful to waste your time.

No, I just don’t like being called an idiot by someone who can’t admit he was mistaken.

You were wrong. Admit it, apologize if you possess a shred of decency, stop digging, and move along.

“The Emperor of The North” with Lee Marvin and Earnest Borgnine.

One of the best. The category action movie is so broad as to be meaningless, though.

I lived for a time in that melange. I’m sure you know of Bradley Beach. My favorite things about living there were going to sleep to the sounds of rolling surf, and Master Bakery. Oh, the cream cheese....
