General John Kelly told the president that calling Gold Star widows might not be a good idea.
It was probably because it was at a time when emotions were tender. It's also clear because as in most things today, there's an opportunity to have things politicized by those ready, willing, and able to exploit such calls for political purposes.

NO, he should stop responding to cartoonish Saloon Hookers masquerading as congress persons.
No, however he might want to consider having them recorded.
Yes. Don’t make a big deal of it, just stop. Have Sarah Sanders address it BRIEFLY if necessary, in swampese.
Just the SJW BLMers who happened to be married to service members KIA.
About 20% of the deceased’s family will be raging liberals willing to sell their dead son out for a moment of political fame and notoriety. Plan your phone call accordingly, and if you think you’re being set up, be particularly careful.
At work, I have liberal clients. I never discuss politics with people that don’t agree with me. I don’t need the aggravation.
No.
President Trump shouldn’t change who he is by undesirables using him to push a fake agenda.
“I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save.
I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of Freedom.
Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,”
“...he should stop responding...”
It was appropriate for the President to respond and defend the clown’s egregious attack on Kelly. Remember Bush who was such a milquetoast who never fought back? Now that was annoying.
Now it would be appropriate for the President to let the matter go.
No. The loss of a loved one in war must be somewhat tempered by a phone call from the President. For most real Americans at least.
I’m not saying this from any personal experience.
When my dad died, we found a photo in his effects of a Colonel presenting the Silver Star to my dad’s grandparents.
It was earned posthumously by my great uncle. I have no idea what he did to earn it. He was a Air Corps Navigator.
No
Yes. There is no upside to this. Maybe a carefully worded letter is all widows and orphans can expect in these dark days.
A public expression of sympathy would be appropriate
A letter certainly
Calling someone who hasnt yet buried her husband - not good
Intrusive actually
plus you cannot call them all so do not play politics like this one
And stop saying what obama did or didn’t do
Thats immature
... just the black ones in a solidly Democratic district.
No, what’s more important. Our servicemen and their families or the democrat media.
Recording the calls are a good idea.
Will JUSTICE be served?
[It turns out that Florida is a all party consent state meaning all parties to a phone call must consent to any interception. Fla. Stat. ch. 934.03. Intercepting the audio rather than the wireless signal (such as via use of the speakerphone function or an extension phone) is a third degree FELONY subject to up to 5 years imprisonment. ALL PARTIES have to consent if one side of the conversation wants to allow another person to listen in. It is also illegal to disclose ... to any other person the contents of any call that were obtained by that interception. Sooooo the Lying Bitch(TM) violated Florida law TWICE, and is now a Lying FELON ... and still a bitch. LOCK HER UP! (but lets NOT hold our breath we KNOW how fairly the left receives justice)]

Of course, if we ever have a lot of dead, he won’t have time to.
Then Rodeo Wilson starts her spew. She's a disgrace.
He should stop. It’s not like prior presidents talked with every, or even many, surviving families. Send a letter if he wishes but forget the phone calls. At least with letter’s there’s a paper trail.
When does Frederica Wilson have to return the Clarabelle Halloween costume?
