A concealed carry license deserves reliable and top of the line handguns.
However, with a huge market to choose from this can be a challenge. We stacked up 10 guns against each other to bring you our top carry handguns based on stopping power, weight, ease of use, and price. Using a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the best, you'll be able to compare the best of the best. In this article, were only covering compact handguns. Here are 10 ideal choices for the everyday carrier. Glock 26 Gen3 (9mm)
Springfield XDs .45
Ruger LCRx .38 Special
SCCY CPX-II
Beretta Nano
This may be the most competent article I have ever read from that site.
Did Dean write this, because the kids had the day off?
I also like the Bersa Thunder 380, over an LCP, and a SR22 that I used to have before the sailboat catsized
For compact I have:
Glock 36, .45
Walther PPK/S .380
trigger work on both
I prefer my Ruger LC-9. Another great carry piece. I’m sure the revolver has certain advantages but it’s personal preference, I guess. The LC-9 works best with regular practice so it presents no issues that would make me reconsider.
Kahr PM9 pocket carry for me. It may be more expensive @ $750, but when it comes to concealed EDC and having a good weapon when your life is on the line, I don’t think “affordability” is a serious prerequisite.
The highest prices of those guns listed are around $550. Spending up to $1000 for the right EDC is not unreasonable for me, especially considering that average ball/training ammo runs $15 per box (9mm through .45), and I run through $200-$300 of ammo in one weekend of shooting. JM2C
I have my service weapon from my days as a LEO (Glock 9mm) and a S&W M&P .380 with an integrated laser sight.
I like the LCR in 357 but loaded with 38+P. (I like the idea of knowing if the only ammo available is 357 that I could shoot it). When I do shoot 357 ammo with it (never a fun proposition with a snub nose) I found it more comfortable than an all steel snub nose shooting 357.
I believe a GLOCK 26 is subcompact and a GLOCK 19 is a compact. I carried a 26 for years but, having lost weight, started carrying the 19 +1 w/ 2 spare mags.
Anything short of a Desert Eagle 50 A&E is too small to carry.,
The old Bretta Jet-fire is a reliable backup for these.
Don't look now, but the LCR in .357 is all steel.
I carry a Ruger SP101 357 when I go hiking. It will stop anything I would encounter in Florida with proper shot placement and the stainless steel isn't going to rust.
7+1, 19 oz, 4.5" high, 1.0" wide, 6" long.
Small, light, solidly made, forever warranty, happily devours whatever ammo you feed it.
Good gun.
I have the Kahr CM9. I absolutely love it. It’s light, thin and hits what I shoot at.
I found it more comfortable than an all steel snub nose shooting 357.
...
I did find some reviews saying the frame flexes some when fired which helps with the recoil. But this other FReeper claimed the frame flexed while the trigger was being pulled.
Thanks for the reply.
Hard to believe the author overlooked the CZ RAMI. I would have placed it well above a number of others on this list.
likewise, I have two LCR. One in 38 +P and one in 22 WMR. The 22 Mag is for my wife and I got the other so she could use either one where ever they are placed in house or vehicle.
I also have another one on the list with a slight variation. I have the M & P Shield in 9mm but with the trintium night sights. I love those sights and I pair with an Alien Gear IWB holster it is a very comfortable weapon.
The fourth concealed carry is my North American Arms Sidewinder in 22 WMR. It uses the same cartridge as my varmint rifle and one of my LCRs but is small enough to carry in a pair of dress pants in a pocket holster or for my wife to slip in any purse. I debated for a few years whether to get one, but after I bought it I find it goes everywhere. They will have a break-action version that I would wait for if I was going to buy one this winter, but the sidewinder is the next best thing.
Yeh, the main problem with the XDS .45 is its almost uncontrollable. Mr. GG2 carries it in .9mm. You can also purchase extended grip mags for this weapon.
