In the last two weeks, I have been trying to explain Constitution 101 to people until I’m blue in the face. No avail. All that numbskulls hear is “free speech,” and that’s that. Now we see why they haven’t been teaching the Constitution in schools for decades.
Excellent piece, thanks for posting.
Great article...Good analysis. Limbaugh and Hannity are apeaking the same truths. This is just another effort to tear down our American traditions. Remember the words of Tevye, in the great song “Tradition”? Each little time, they tear out a prop...where does it stop? Where does it Stop?”
The same people who are for free speech on the football field are against free speech on the campus.
[[hundreds of pro football players were kneeling down during the National Anthem]]
And 1000’s of fans began dropping their espn subscriptions and burning their nfl gear- The players who kneeled should be sued for causing profits to decline from their outrageous disrespectful acts-
Our local farmers market quit playing national anthem recently.
If I had season tickets, I’d go to the game for the anthem and leave when the players came out.
There are threads on which freepers allege Alejandro Villanueva is still some kind of hero who’s been threatened like a POW with something, so “he had no choice”, and excrete “When did YOU serve” to anyone here who disagrees.
Alejandro Villanueva is no Jeremiah Denton.
I haven’t decided yet how many of these are “honest” trolls, and which are just REALLY SERIOUS football fans clutching at some Big Media headlines in order to justify continuing to serve the NFL’s viewership needs.
John, your are worth reading.
Keep up the good work!
Well done.
BTW this is not free speech. The viewers have paid for the time and venue. The protesters did not engage in protected speech by getting a permit, hiring a band - at their personal expense - to play the national anthem while they kneel, in a public place and at a time when others are free to carry signs in counter-protest, raise their own voices, stand and salute, or just walk away shaking their heads in sadness and disappointment at the meaningless spectacle.
I’ve taken the Titans’, Delanie Walkers’, advice and have said bye! to the NFL. They don’t need me, then I don’t need them.
