So I graduated school today.
15 1/2 month program culminated this afternoon. There were times when I wanted to pull out my hair, but I made the right decision.
Out of less than 30 people - yes, less than 30 people - they chose me to give the valedictory speech, which I totally bombed. I didn't bother to even put together an outline for one. I was really nervous the whole day, and leading up to being introduced, my mind went blank.
I guess not bad for a kid that went to NYC public schools; spent 5 years in one school (yes 5 years), then two months in an adult program after moving until I finally finished high school. I did progressively worse in those 5 years, going from mediocre to a 55 average. They were some dark unsure years, but I stuck it out.
Now I have a 4.0 GPA and I still can't believe I'm finished.
Good for you.
While I managed to get my B.S. Degree right after HS I wasn’t a star student and didn’t get the actual degree I wanted. My main problem was a lack of math skills.
Six years ago I decided to take an algebra class at my local community college. 13 semesters later I need only 7 more credits for (another) degree, this will be a associate in biology. My remaining classes are Organic Chemistry II and college Trig. OCHEM II in the spring then in the fall of next year I will complete trig. So I cannot brag about it just yet but I do intend to when the time comes. I will be 60 years old on my graduation day.
Wow.
Your post made my day and I’m brushing away tears.
“I hate attention, but I wanna gloat a little bit.”
