The magic oven is now a reality
The Philippine Daily Inquirer ^ | September 3, 2017 | Margaux Salcedo

There are times I would like to make the effort of throwing dinner for friends or family and cook everything from scratch. But the labor of love just takes so long. In spite of all the inspiration from Rachael Ray, the 30-minute meal is actually more myth than fact.

Thawing your food alone may take almost an hour. Then there’s the diligence of slow cooking the meat to your desired tenderness. Not to mention the many times you will have to change pots and pans, as the vegetables, which cook faster, have to be cooked much later than the meat—you can’t just dump it all in together. And then there’s the extra challenge of creating a signature dessert.

Wouldn’t it be incredible if you could just dump all your ingredients in an oven and when you open the oven, everything’s ready to eat? Then even the busiest of executives would have time to create and appreciate gourmet meals when they get home.....

It is called a crock pot. Or slow cooker. Either one.

I was in Monroe CT. Literally, the school that the kids from Sandy Hook were relocated to after the tragic shooting. That was my school.

We learned how to prepare Deer from start to finish with one of the student’s kills. We went from a whole deer to cooked meat in 3 sessions.

We learned how to clean. How to really, really clean. We learned how to sew. We learned to maintain everything for years to come. Our stoves were from the 60s and they looked new.

We learned ironing - I’m still the only person I know (male or female, really) who even knows how to iron (My own mother being the only other person). We learned so much in that class, it was ridiculous. I remember every class like it was yesterday.

I can’t remember much of anything else about school in general.. but Home-ec is what made me the man I am today.

We even learned how to sharpen knives !

Women will still complain about how hard it was to “make dinner”, and demand a magic dishwasher.

This is for women because most don’t know how to cook anymore. More guys know how to cook nowadays than women. My dad taught my mom and that was over 50 years ago.

I knew when I first got married that I’d better do the cooking if I didn’t want to starve.

My ex could make a boiled egg scream in pain.

The technology is not completely reliable, of course...

The Chicken Sandwich and Coffee menu item is particularly troublesome.

One of my signature desserts: Chocolate Dump Cake

Dump all the dry ingredients in a pan, stir, dump all the wet ingredients in. Stir. Stick it in a preheated oven...then bake. Remove, cool, dust with sugar or spread with warmed hazelnut spread. Eat.

The magic oven is now a reality

No it isn't. And it won't be "a reality" until I both see it work as hyped and it's available for regular purchase.

In the meantime, HotLogic ovens are available https://myhotlogic.com/ and work great! They are simple. And they are "a reality".

This was the best with MRE's. Lightened up the pack immensely!

I still have one left on my garage shelf with old MREs and flameless ration heaters.

The Grocery stores around here always have those Banquet Frozen Dinners on sale for $.99.

Makes me wonder what they pay for them.

I could come up with an EBT Meal Plan that would save the Taxpayers Billions of dollars.

Wow, that was some program. Amazing! I taught at a private Catholic school for 12 years ( I am now a special needs teacher in a public school). One of my favorite nuns taught home ec & she taught sewing, cooking, washing of clothes & general life skills. When the money hungry diocese scrapped the program the students were so upset. Surprisingly the boys loved it. You NEED those skills in life!

Sister R. Was one of those people who saved and took great care of things. I swear if you needed a piece of ribbon from 1950 w/ Daisies, she would have it. She came from a generation that respected things & didn’t throw things away. I have so many cool things that she gave me. And she is still cranking along. Incidentally she & her nun friend were good friends of the nun who was recently brutally murdered in Mississippi. Really tore them both up.

What a great experience you had......it is no more.

I will believe it when I see it. They put cod that was frozen in a block of ice into the oven and want you to believe they can cook the cod to perfection without melting the ice. So how do you get the cooked cod out of the ice block when its done and who wants to eat ice cold cod? Crazy if you ask me.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This technology is real, as far as cooking a fish inside of a block of ice. A guy I work with has seen it. I think it was an Isreali company. Is this a practical product? I don’t know. Can one cook a fish frozen in a block of ice? Yes.
