This week, August 21-27, marks the third annual Support Black-Owned Restaurants Week, which encourages people to support black restaurant owners and local business.
First started in 2014 by Bertha Pearl after she was inspired by the Bay Area's Black Restaurant Day, the annual event has now grown to a full week of celebration. This year's Support Black-Owned Restaurants Week kicks off today, and in honor of the eclipse, many restaurants will be offering deals. The week will end with a party at chef/owner William Travis' Dub's St. Johns on Sunday, August 27 from 6-10. Travis has been a major part of the effort to expand this year's iteration.
There are similar events in Seattle and New York City.

Yes Sambo’s resturants, named after the two original owners, Sam and Bo, still exists. The name was changed to Denny’s.

Honestly, as a 60 year old “white boy”, I am uncomfortable eating in food joints where blacks are preparing my food, because I don’t trust what other kind of bodily fluids they may add to my food. No thanks, bro.
My mother has a story that when on her honeymoon, she and my father stopped at a restaurant in Virginia and after being seated, they realized it was a black-owned restaurant and all of the customers were black. When the waiter came to their table, they asked if it was all right if they stayed and they were assured that they were welcome. The food they were served was beyond delicious. When they returned home, they recommended that restaurant to any friends or family who were traveling south, who did the same. I like to think my parents single-handedly integrated that restaurant. I wish I could remember the name of it but it was many years ago and I wonder if it is still in business. Many black restaurants serve superb food and all want repeat customers, black and white. This is really a hateful thread, I think.

A long, long time ago 3 of us went to a Temptations concert. The black guy sitting next to me looked at us, looked around at the crowd, turned back to me and said, "you guys look like pearl onions in a sea of raisins. Did you buy tickets for the wrong event?" Seems like the same situation here.

When ‘Blazing Saddles’ hit the theaters, my ribs took a beating - EVERY time I ‘guffawed’ she would poke me.
The ONLY ones that actually laughed and openly enjoyed the movie were a handful of people like me and the few blacks that were there.
I’m sure that today’s antifa/blm folks will be protesting in front of it in short order.

We have 5 restaurants in town so they need to scramble for customers. The Mexican restaurant lost my business last year when the waitress acted like she didn’t understand English at our table. Funny how she understood it and spoke English to other tables. We weren’t anything but nice to her. Nope, never again.
Never tried them before, but I hear they are tasty!
