Some thoughts about the horrible events in Charlottesville:
First of all, the ideology of the white nationalists who showed up to protest is vile and unacceptable. The same can be said of many of those who showed up to counter-protest. Everyone has a right to protest, and to counter-protest. Ive done it myself. They have every right to demonstrate peacefully, to carry signs, to shout slogans, no matter how vile they may be. They have every right to shout at each other back and forth, no matter how fruitless that may be. This is America. You get to do that.
What you do not get to do is commit acts of violence. And lets be honest, there was violence among the white supremacists and violence among those who came to protest against them. Its all wrong, and it all needs to be condemned. I agree with Sen. Ted Cruz that it should be investigated as domestic terrorism. All of it.
I thought President Trump sounded a good tone. He condemned the violence from all sides and called for national unity and love. Exactly what I expect from my president at times like this. I think the criticism of him for not singling out one side or the other is unwarranted and unfair. But his political opponents couldnt help but attack it.
Now the tough but necessary points:
If you heard about this and your first thought, or your second, or your third, was how to gain political advantage from this, youre part of the problem.
If you are upset by these events but you were justifying the riots around the Inauguration, or in Baltimore, or in Ferguson, youre part of the problem.
If youre offended by the white supremacist ideology but not by chants like Pigs in a blanket. Fry em like bacon or What do we want? Dead cops! When do we want it? Now!, youre part of the problem.
If you consider one of these mobs fascist thugs, but not the other, youre part of the problem.
If you condemn one side of this or the other, but leave the other side(s) unmentioned, youre implicitly justifying and excusing the violence of the side you wont mention. That makes you part of the problem.
Im sorry if that offends you, but its the way it is.
What we need most right now is prayer and unity. We need to pray for the victims of the violence, their friends and families, for law enforcement, for the public officials, for the people who perpetrated this horrible violence, for our leaders, for our country, for each other. And we need to stop politicizing events like this.
And we need to unite in rejection of these extremist ideologies all of them and in support of civilized, ordered liberty for all. We need to address each other more civilly. We need to stop feeding the hatred of extremists on all sides who promote this kind of hatred and horror. Remember, were all Americans. Were all human beings. Were all the heart and hands of God. Its time to start acting that way.
Let us recognize the divine in each other and let us work together, hand in hand, even though we vigorously disagree, to solve this in peace and love. Together.
Now, lets get to it.
“If you are upset by these events but you were justifying the riots around the Inauguration, or in Baltimore, or in Ferguson, youre part of the problem. “

In my case,you nailed it.
As the mother of a cop that was my first reaction.
Time for me to sat back and take a long, hard look at myself.
.
I can recognize the divine in a rat.
Ted Cruz? Seriously?
So? Let them march and just ignore them. That's the best way to fight them.
I don’t think the Right has to answer for this guy. The vast majority of those on the Right would never support this kind of behavior. I can’t say the same for those on the Left.
What is white nationalism anyway? There are black people too who love America as it was founded and don’t want to see it become another 3rd world dumpster.
>>...the ideology of the white nationalists who showed up to protest is vile and unacceptable<<
The ideology of the black nationalists are as vile.
I’m just tuning into this sub-civilization news. And all headlines and summaries neglect to mention the makeup of the crowd. Were they pro-KKK, anti-KKK, something other?
Ignore them is right. IN the mid 80’s, the Klan marched in Beaufort, SC. Two things struck me, how amazingly dirt poor and ignorant the Klan marchers were. One was wearing corduroy trousers that looked like they hadn’t been washed since they were last in fashion and their vehicle did not look as though they would make the return trip. The other interesting thing was, no one, other than stupid me, showed up to watch. I don’t believe they have been back since.
The “Right” wasn’t there. Communist Leftist Blackshirts vs. Nazi Leftist Brownshirts. Different outfits, same totalitarianism.
Interesting. Just what specifically is their ideology?
But noooooooo, everybody has to prove they are more “Anti-Racist” than you.
A Democrat Rally is what it was.
I want unity too but the majority of supremacists these days are on the Left. The Right does have its supremacists but their numbers are dwindling and I think desperate.
Those who control the Left wants this country to explode in violence and they want to increase the desperation. They keep dividing and pushing people waiting for a spark to ignite a fire. How is one to achieve unity amidst all this ignorance-driven hate?
One side had a permit to demonstrate and the other side did not. Guess which one was illegal.
I guess “white nationalism” is the left’s new buzz word that they’ve made up to demonize half the country.
“One side had a permit to demonstrate and the other side did not. Guess which one was illegal.”
How will that be relevant at the murder trial?
Since KKKlinton came up with the “vast right wing conspiracy” (who were their political opponents) and tagged us with the title “terrorist” via Tim McVeigh, this has been growing. Homeland security officially named Democrats’ political enemies terrorists and extremists. This include NRA supporters, veterans, and many other normal people.
Now they have progressed to name all their political enemies “white supremacists. They claim they want to wipe out “whiteness” and although I know what they mean by that, it too many hours of study. It’s bad. It’s communist.
