Reservations in the White House on troop levels in Afghanistan have reportedly led the Trump Administration to a point where it is considering withdrawing U.S. troops from the beleaguered country altogether, contrary to recommendations from the Pentagon.
The Wall Street Journal reported that without managing to green light a plan to send 3,900 more troops to Afghanistan to turn back an advancing Taliban, the White House is instead considering scaling back U.S. presence there.
One unnamed senior administration official was quoted as saying that the question of U.S. commitment in Afghanistan is a fundamental one for the White House. It doesnt work unless we are there for a long time, and if we dont have the appetite to be there a long time, we should just leave. Its an unanswered question, they said....

Get out! If they send any terrorists, Nike “em.

We need either a complete change in strategy (not just tactics) or leave. The strategy of imposing and propping up a central government on people who don’t want one is doomed to failure.
Just do it.
With the tribal system and Taliban, Afghanistan seems a lost cause.
It’s only been 16 years. Give it a chance /s
The treasure lost hurts.
The men terribly injured for life devastates.
The men lost crushes your heart.
There is an ironic and tragic circle of death if that is true. A ying and yang for cold warriors that never die.
Let’s get the hell out of there. No point in spilling more of our blood.
And when we leave, take everything with us that we brought. No more gifts. Blow every building we built, crater every runway. Leave nothing of military value.
At rhis point, to win, either we nuke Pakistan or we let Pakistan colonize Afghanistan and cluster fck themselves in it
Please!
Wish we could Napalm the heroin fields on the way out.
That’s the truth..
Elements paid by the US Deep State currently guard those heroin fields and market the drugs.
Trump is bringing an end to that arrangement.
The Media will pretend that he is running before the Taliban. In fact he is ending a despicable trade in human misery.
I question doing this because Obama tried this with Iraq. Pulling out too soon would give the Taliban more control, perhaps they would topple the government, terrorism would have a place to grow, which would further destabilize the Middle East, and which would ultimately empower ISIS, Al Queda and lead to more refugees.
If we are in, we have to be in to win.
Too soon? We’ve been there for 16 years.
It would be a good idea. Going back to Alexander the Great, it is not possible to occupy Afghanistan.
Time is sadly irrelevant - if you pull out, who is going to fill the vacuum? The Taliban and terrorist groups. We see what happened when Obama allowed that to happen in Iraq. We were stuck with ISIS, a terrorized Middle East, and a refugee crisis. I’d rather help the government of Afghanistan now and turn things around because I think the alternative is worse.
Make it an annual event.
