The demise of the British Empire was a disaster for the entire planet. What a shame Hitler didn’t go to war with Stalin in 1939.

Russia never would have lasted without the US Lend Lease program. Our weapons saved them from losing.

My history teacher, retired military, said Hitler should have bombed them all on the beach. Cost him the war.

Lots of theories as to why the Germans stalled x 2 days, one being Hitler was hopeful the British would accept the good will so he could turn his full attention on the USSR.

I saw it. There are three different story lines on asynchronous dilated timelines. Don’t bother trying to make sense of anything. Just enjoy the pretty colors.

Point taken.
Good point.

More on the program for those interested:

Soviet casualties in WW2 were massive.

check your history of the early ar in the pacific, US made tough choices to abandon troops on multiple occasions, and to save naval assets. Stupid to make bad decisions that can cost yo the war, no matter how painful . on the movie, i saw it, AWESOME. left me with a haunging feeling, uplifting but also tragic.

WARNING: SPOILER FOLLOWS

the end part where Tom Hardy has stayed to defend the troops, runs out of gas and glides in was magic.

The British Navy committed a cruiser and 39 destroyers to the Dunkirk operation. Six were sunk and 19 damaged. One of the major issues was the shallow waters off the beaches prevented even small craft from approaching closer than 100 yards from the beaches.

The Germans were hoping for a peaceful settlement with Great Britain.

Russia was winnable, if Hitler had allowed the Russians who hated the Bolsheviks to have their own State, even if it was a puppet state. But he basically wanted the Russians to become slaves or be killed off.

Absolutely agree that it was great. Perhaps some on this board expected a hero. Either everyone or no one was a hero. It was not meant to be a documentary either. It was a snapshot of a slice of an incredible event.

If it’s not your cup of tea, that’s fine, but if you think you’d like it I would recommend going to as big a screen as you can find.

I heard that the film is racially insensitive. It apparently has no Mexican-American characters or actors as well as no blacks.

I had an uncle by marriage who sailed on the Murmansk run carrying military supplies. He took to the lifeboats twice as his ships were sunk by u-boats.

Little dialogue but high intensity action. I was totally engrossed in the movie. Two thumbs up. Go see it.

i thought it was outstanding - gripping. the point of the titling of the 3 threads (land, sea, air)at the beginning of the film and the time they covered seemed clear to me. it wasn’t a chronological account - but rather an accounting of the 3 campaigns shown through the eyes of participants.it seems some here didn’t quite get that. anyway i thought the screenwriter did an amazing job of building the story line in each to a simultaneous painful feverish pitch - when i thought “will this ever turn around?” which is probably just what participants in that hellish situation were feeling. it was one horrendous situation - that 330,000 or so were rescued is nothing short of a miracle. but one had to admire the grit of those portrayed. A+ - i don’t think i could bear to see it again. it exhausted me.

The Falklands might just declare unilateral Independence or themselves invite Argentina in to avoid Islamization.

I was saddened at the lack of women of color in the leading roles as well as the lack of representation of the lgbtqrstuv community/sarc
