A librarian at New York University suffered “serious race fatigue” at Chicago’s American Library Association (ALA) last month, experiencing “mounting anger and frustration” after having hit her limit of dealing with white people.
April Hathcock, scholarly communication librarian at NYU, summed up her experience at the ALA in her blog as nothing short of a sea of excruciating whiteness.
“Five straight days of being tone-policed and condescended to and ‘splained to” by an “88 percent white” profession, she wrote. “Five days of mounting anger and frustration that you struggle to keep below the surface because you can’t be the ‘angry and emotional person of color’ yet again.”

Sorry, definitely not broad brushing BUT if the youngsters were taught at an early age that getting an education was paramount and just keeping up an image that may have been false when started turned into the ‘way to be’, that don’t worry about being called ‘White’ if you get good grades.
I understand not all Blacks fall into that category but just listen to youngish blacks speak today.
I had ‘uneducated’ Black Laborers and Operators while in the Asphalt business in the 1970s+ and their diction was far better than what we witness today from so called college graduates.
I realize in ‘my’ Navy and Marine Corps days that the lack of Minority ‘Senior Officers’ may have been because of discrimination etc BUT one must also spend approx 25-30 years to reach the Rank of Adm or Gen.

There should be a book called “Some of the Solid Gold dancers Were Black, and They Were Hot”.

I visited a branch library near my office and I knew it was for the blacks, but I looked around in it. Most of the books were about pimping your automobile, sports and general African American books...they didn’t have Black Enterprise magazine there. (Granted it was a small library, and it is being rebuilt so it might have more space...)
I can imagine that there’s limited room for advancement in her job and what few higher positions open up are slow in coming. She wants more money to STFU.
Indeed. The good ones have my sympathy and support. The pity is that the ones who glory in their illiteracy and lack of education get all the exposure (articles on actin' white, ghetto-speak, etc.).
Looks like she has buffet-fatigue.
