Thank you for reminding us of this. This gave me an idea for something that we could all do—buy our kids “The Black Book of Communism” before their birthday with the requirement that they must read it and do a book report before they get a birthday present.
That website is not comprehensive.
I visited Mongolia last year; among the sites I viewed was a monastery, which used to house hundreds of monks who ran boarding schools for nomadic children.
The Soviets overran the monastery, and murdered around two hundred monks, lining them up and executing them. Another 1,200 escaped. They then knocked down the buildings. Remnants of walls are still standing; one can wander around the ruins. It is a sobering thing indeed to stand looking at a wall pocked with tiny holes, knowing that peaceful Buddhist monks, teachers of children, were gunned down on that spot.
The Mongolians invited the Soviets to come in the 1920s to help them overthrow the Chinese occupiers. The Soviets did help them oust the Chinese, at least from Outer Mongolia. But the Soviets were not completely kind to the Mongolians afterwards.
It is still better than Islam at “Peace”.
YES!!
Communism/Socialism = the epitome of evil. Tagline
Yes! Somehow my reply posted to the wrong comment, but you are so correct. Your suggestion is the kind of thing that needs to be done. And maybe bribe the little dudes to read it...I don’t know...constant vigilance.
Thank you for bringing this up. Victims of the Holodomor famine (which I’ll refer to as Famine 2) are included under the category “villager,” except for those urban dwellers who also fell victim to Famine 2. Out of an admittedly difficult and imperfect categorization system, the urban victims of Famine 2 are classified as “dissidents.” But I would expect (and welcome) a great deal of controversy surrounding the victims of the famine of the 1920s (Famine 1). So as to completely neuter the communist apologists, I have not included those Famine 1 victims in my totals—although the Black Book of Communism did include them. The victims of Famine 1 would have brought the overall total from around 85 million to around 90 million. Having said that...I truly believe the victims of the Famine 1 should be included; the reason I didn’t include them is 100% to shut up the apologists. They do have a legitimate—though horribly thin—argument concerning a couple of weak factors in Famine 1.
Ironically, eventually the butchers who perpetrated these massive crimes against humanity often became victims of the very system they helped establish once they had "outlived their usefulness" or we reviewed as a potential threat to the powers that they served.
Thank you for your kind words, and I appreciate your response. I’ve been so mystified for so long at how people could be falling for communism again. The only sense I can make of it is—as in your tagline—that there is true evil at work. Personally, I believe that evil to be the devil...but even if someone believes otherwise...I know of agnostics and atheists who recognize the pure, abstract evil within communism. God help us... (and I don’t mean that as a secular expression)..
