If I Were A Rich Man ...
"Dear God, you made many, many poor people. "I realize, of course, that it's no shame to be poor. "But it's no great honor either!" -Fiddler on the Roof
There is an old - and very cynical remark - that the very rich are different from the average person - they have more money. Which is true. But what isn't encompassed in that rather sardonic bon mot is just what having vast wealth can do for you. Being wealthy offers opportunities that are, perhaps, not always understood by the poor.
If youre a rich man, you can buy a house for cash. You do not have to worry about taking out a mortgage, let alone paying it back. If youre a rich man, you can buy a car for cash and afford comprehensive insurance, as well as everything from the very latest gadgets to basic maintenance. You do not have to worry about taking out a loan or meeting payments. If youre a rich man, you can afford lawyers and accountants and everything else you might need to smooth out any little problems you may encounter. NHS waiting lists? Go private and be assured of the best of care. Even being accused of a terrible crime - with a slam-dunk case against you - can be mitigated with expensive lawyers and cash shovelled around like snow.

But Clooney - and his fellows - are insulated from the consequences of their self-righteous stance. Clooney has impressive security. He and his family dont have to worry about the sharp upturn in sexual assaults, murders and religious conflict in Europe. They can - and, if this article is accurate, they will - simply move away. How many others have the option to just leave?
I think Clooney is really moving to avoid taxes on his recent multimillion tequila windfall. He just doesn’t want to admit it.
But that’s a difference too.
This article is an exercise in “no BLEEP, Sherlock”. This is called life. I only object when fools come out to offer remedies involving government taking away wealth from the well-to-do and doling it out.
You don’t like the situation you’re in? Work harder and make smarter financial decisions to improve your lot in life. Forget what the others have or are doing.

Being able to do those things does not mean a person is rich.
“Polly Poor doesn’t have insurance”
So Polly is driving without insurance. That’s illegal AND stupid, both.
So are we to infer from that situation that poor people are both stupid AND criminal?
“What are you having for dinner tonight?” Relative.
“Hamburger Helper,” Me.
“....What is hamburger helper, is that the maid?” Relative.
My true story of the 10%, family edition.
“Polly Poor doesn’t have insurance”
But Polly Poor apparently isn’t SO poor that she can’t afford an automobile, which in most of the rest of the world actually makes her quite wealthy.
Nonetheless, Polly is driving without insurance, and that’s both illegal AND stupid, not to mention extremely anti-social since in a different accident Polly could have killed an entire family even more poor than herself, leaving behind an even greater tragedy than a driver who simply wrecks her own car without insurance.
So are we to infer from that situation that poor people are stupid, criminal and anti-social?
Actually, those who have a place to live and a vehicle, are in the wealthiest 95% of the world. Yes, YOU are rich, as am I, as is EVERYONE posting on FR. Someone who can pay cash for his/her home, is even more wealthy.
Rich people still die. They have friends who are not rich. They can’t just buy everything because it takes time to take care of everything.
Rich people can have butlers and press agents. But they can’t make them do their jobs right. They can buy lawyers but the law protects people against other people, and rich people are often suing other rich people.
Rich people can often escape. They have homes in the woods or the mountains. But they have to take care of those homes when they are not there.
Rich people don’t have more time on earth. They get sick too. They have more resources but they have no more than one life to enjoy them in. If you buy 10 homes you cannot stay and get comfortable with your favorite shaver and toothbrush in each home. You don’t know your neighbors. It may be your home but its almost like a hotel.
You can tell old rich from new rich and smart rich from dumb rich. Because some people understand their own limitations. They know while they can afford 10 cars they don’t have the time or inclination to take care of and store ten cars. Smart rich decide what they want out of life and what they need out of life and they pursue that, which often does not take too much money.
Yeah, but you can but you have to be careful with such purchases. If you have a fortune of between $2 and $5 million, you’re affluent but not really rich. You have to squeeze that money and make it last.
The article is just another side of class warfare. It is a common occurrance that the society-destroyers will flee from the effects of their own voting records and depravities, only to infect and kill off another host. It's not just "the rich", although the author has a point that these folks can afford to be clueless and thoughtless, leaving victims to their fate.
However, the consequence *is* that they are compelled to move away from their own beliefs set in motion. And that's why there can be no rest for them, and no need to resent or even despise them, because wherever they take themselves, there they are. No amount of money can free them from the enemy that they can't escape from: their own minds.
Preachy Hollyweird is littered with broken homes, substance abuse, perversion, lawlessness, and all manner of corruption and general nastiness. The louder one of the "beautiful people" preaches, the more he must be plagued by his own soul and life choices. Material wealth may buy material peace, but... since when is "peace" a material construct? The entire world is enslaved to that false paradigm.
Love your neighbor as yourself. If people realized how much true wealth that would generate...
Whether or not “poor Polly” has or needs insurance is entirely dependent on whether or not she’s consented to the jurisdiction of the state concerning her being a “driver” or a “travelled” upon public pathways. Most people consent to the states regulation through ignorance reinforced by public schooling which excludes any reference to citizens unalienable rights. You can travel in an automobile without a license (a right) and not have insurance, though in the latter case your assets and potentially your freedom are at risk from damages incurred from your negligence.
That said, it’s fairly difficult to assert that right without a lot of hassle with the way the automobile purchasing process has evolved. Most vehicles end up entered in state DMV registries where the state has essentially been granted a security interest in the conveyance. If you want to go down the no license/registration/insurance route and enjoy that freedom the easiest means is to either purchase a salvage title automobile or purchase one new with cash and obtain the original Manufacturers Statement of Origin (the true title).
Your mileage may very, but I’ve encountered several people who’ve done this successfully over the years. Additionally, the amount of crap received over the exercise of the right appeared to be directly related to automobiles age/condition, and the amount of inflammatory crap slathered on it. A new Prius with no tags and neat “not for hire” and “personal conveyance” stencilings adjacent the plate holder garnered hardly a second thought from code enforcers.
I may go this route later in life, but at this point I frequently utilize my vehicle in a commercial capacity, often carrying a highly regulated device in it, so I follow the rules associated with that pretty tightly.
“is entirely dependent on whether or not shes consented to the jurisdiction of the state concerning her being a driver”
would that be anything like consenting to the state’s jurisdiction to pass a driving test and obtain a driving license, obtain a license plate for the vehicle every 12 months, keep the car in safe working order, pay registration taxes on the car each year, pay gasoline taxes when you fuel up, obey traffic regulations like stopping at stop signs, yielding to pedestrians, obeying speed limits, turning your headlights on at night, and only driving on the right side of the road?
That's the point of the article (it was written by a European Vox Day reader, not Vox Day himself). The middle class ends up paying the price of the policies pushed by the Clooneys, who can leave anytime it gets too dangerous.
If she wants to drive as opposed to travel. Did you read the whole response? The law is out there, it’s available for you to look in to.
If you’re not driving, your not subject to it. Most people assume they are. Your response otherwise was a mishmash that covers aspects of both. Exercising your right to travel in a commonly available conveyance doesn’t mean you’re absolved from responsibility for stupid shit... I’m not going to waste my time going point by point over that, do your own research.
