The Big Sick has been roundly lauded in the press lately, including here at Jezebel, and not without good reason: it’s a funny, heartwarming love story based on the true-life experiences of cowriters/married couple Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon. But as much as I liked it—and I did—I also found myself exhausted, yet again, by the onscreen depiction of a brown man wanting to date a white woman, while brown women are portrayed alternately as caricatures, stereotypes, inconsequential, and/or the butts of a joke.

Seems to me that more TV shows are getting on the bandwagon for LBGT’s. The various House Hunter shows seem to have a disproportionately high number of same-sex couples on their shows. While the LBGT community wants you to think that they speak for 25% of the population, it appears that less than 5% is closer to the truth. If HGTV wants to run at that rate, that fine with me, but in my casual watching it seems much higher than that.

It’s a rare case of truth in movies. I worked for a pro photo lab that did major business in wedding photography. When you saw ‘mixed’ marriage some things were constant.
If it was a white guy and black woman, the guy would look like a genetic misfit and the bride would be very plain.
If it was a black guy and a white woman, the black guy would be buff and good-looking with a bride who was far from pretty.
White women are trophies for black men while black women are desperation moves for white men.
