Tillerson: Trump isn't 'walking away' from climate change issue

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Monday said the president is still committed to addressing climate change even though he withdrew from the Paris climate pact last week.

“He’s not walking away from it — he’s simply walking away from what he felt was an agreement that did not serve the American people well,” Tillerson said, according to his remarks released by the State Department.

The secretary of state spoke in Sydney alongside Secretary of Defense James Mattis in their first joint appearance in a foreign country.

Tillerson said President Donald Trump is interested in “perhaps a new construct of an agreement” and believes climate change “is still important and that he wants to stay engaged on the issue.”

Trump on Thursday vowed to pull out of the Paris climate agreement, saying it puts the U.S. at a “very big economic disadvantage.” He also said he’s open to renegotiating the agreement, though France, Germany, Italy and the United Nations stated after Trump withdrew that the pact isn’t renegotiable.

During the press conference in Sydney, Tillerson also said America’s fight against terrorism won’t be affected by the decision by Bahrain, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to withdraw diplomatic staff from Qatar because of that country’s ties to Iran and for supporting terrorism.

The agreement was just a world wide distribution of USA funds.

Trump wants our money HERE.

His intention is to used the saved money for infrastructure.

President Trump is not going to shut down solar, wind, gas, oil, coal...and new innovations. He's going to let the market drive them.

Climate change has existed since the beginning of time. The stupidity comes when we think WE can control it and I think that's where Trump is.

Trump needs to tell his family and everyone in his administration to STOP using the term “climate change” and to refer to AGW, instead.

That’s a leftist term that replace the hoax term AGW.

Every person with a brain knows the climate has been changing since the Earth has had an atmosphere. It’s driven by Sun spots, tilt of the Earth’s axis and position from the Sun; collectively resulting in our four seasons each year.

How can anybody believe in man made climate change? The warm up has been going on for 22,000 years, with the only exception being the Younger Dryas cooling period of about 1,500 years.

So the gist of Conway story is that WH sent people out to say this was not a travel ban..spicer..john Kelly..kellyanne..

Then trump turns around and calls it a travel ban. George conway indicates this kind of behavior is not helpful..and wont get him the scotus votes.

Trump has a history of doing this on important issues..recently it was..comey not fired about russia.then trump gives an interview saying it was about russia

Kellyanne may be close to quiting....or her husband has gone rogue...and trump wont trust her

Include Africa and the rest of Asia and let’s call it 30 billion tons a year. 1 acre of new forest will capture 2.5 tons. If my math is correct, (probably not) that means we need around 12 billion trees.

Using satellites and technology, we should be able to guesstimate the amount of trees on the planet.

12 billion - existing trees on planet = amount of trees needed to be planted.

Does that seem right?

To hell with anyone who believes in man made climate change. The libs are always looking for a divisive agenda. It is laughable to believe the earth climate has changed due to man.

I think when Sean Spicer and others were saying not to use the term “travel ban,” they meant it in terms of a Muslim ban. That said, it’s so important for the WH to be on the same pages with Trump. On issues like this, they need a consistent message. Why hurt yourself and give the media fodder?
