We all know a guy. You know. That Guy. The one who 'has a plan' when the Zombie Apocalypse' happens (it won't). That plan usually consists of holing up in a mall or a grocery store, brandishing ridiculous weapons, and may have taken a martial arts class once.
There's a survival variant, too, and I'm gonna tell you all about it.
You might find that you're a That Guy. There's no shame in it. The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. I was a mall ninja once, and I'll admit it, I still like overly complicated and ridiculous ostensible weapons.
Think you can be a genuine survivalist? Well, read through, and see if you think you could stand surviving on your own in Alaskan wilderness. No mall ninja-ing, no martial artistry, just surviving off the land with a basic kit of tools.
Here's why that might be really, really hard.
Hunting is harder than you think it is. Alright, alright, I know: "But Sam," you say, "I hunt all the time. You're being stupid. (insert other colorful language to taste)".Yeah, alright, hunting in the Lower 48 isn't so bad wen you take a truck out and use a kitted-out rifle with a scope and whatever else.
Moose are Huge. No really, have you ever been up close to a moose? Really up close? I can tell you they can get up to 6.9 feet at the shoulder, or 1,500 lbs, but does that really convey how big a moose is? Read the rest of the really hard to survive in Alaska story here.
LOL. Yup. Once you kill the moose you got to deal with the Grizzy ears...
I get grizzly ears every few weeks, but my wife trims them.
Kill the moose, harvest the meat you need and leave the rest for the grizzly ears....
The size of the animal doesn’t matter then.....Back pack out 200lbs of meat with a drag......
When it gets to survivalist time, you won’t have to share your bunting grounds with thousands of recreational hunters in season, but millions of starving people who don’t care about bag limits, hunting seasons or sustainability. The land will be quickly stripped of anything larger than a mouse. Quite simply, the land of the US can’t support 300 million people with anything less than modern industrial agriculture. Even if you drop back to horse drawn plows you’ll have 80% of the population starve. Much more if you go back to a hunter-gather level.
Bunting ground is down the third base line, and you don’t want to share that with millions of bunters. I hate ottokorekt.
Good one!
There will be a plentiful species that will be easy prey if you can get passed the idea...
Buddy of mine got talked into deer hunting - once. He was 'fortunate' enough to bag a big doe, then had to drag her carcass a quarter-mile up and down ravines just to get her to the truck.
Like I said, he went deer hunting - once.
s. Oh, and hunting season obviously doesnt apply all year, unless you have your proper Resident subsistence hunting permits. In that case, you may find yourself a hell of a lot colder while youre trying to fish, hunt, or trap while theres snow and ice around.
The article is about SHTF. Why would I need a license?
And yeah, I can build a shelter or start a fire and none of it easy...
Even if you drop back to horse drawn plows
= = =
If no one eats your horse.
If the lights go out half the population will be dead in 6 mos. There won’t be that much competition in the woods for game.
Somebody hasn't been doing their homework.
“I get grizzly ears every few weeks, but my wife trims them.”
Your wife trims them? Does she have a sister?
I knew a guy with a necklace made out of grisly ears. But he was from Louisiana.
OK, OK. I’ll start being more careful.
I don’t care. I’m still gonna buy some rainbow ninja blades. They’re so socially aware!
“The land will be quickly stripped of anything larger than a mouse.”
Exactly as depicted in the EMP-scenario of “One-Second After” by William Forstner. Ditto to your post!
Survivalism?, in spite of how the “realism” programs depict it on t. v. is extremely difficult. That is why few instead of many will survive.
