Unfortunately, broadcast television networks today are not interested in appealing to the massive Trump electorate
Despite healthy ratings, ABC promptly cancelled Tim Allens popular sitcom, Last Man Standing this week. The show was a successful part of the ABC line-up for six years. While some media reports claim that ABC cancelled the show due to poor ratings, the truth is that the program was the second highest rated comedy and the third highest rated scripted show on the network. In fact, during the final years of the show, Last Man Standing drew an impressive average of 8.1 million viewers each week.
Allens real crime was not poor ratings, but having the audacity to announce he was a conservative. He understood the challenge he faced in Hollywood. In an interview with ABC late night host Jimmy Kimmel, Allen lamented that You gotta be real careful around here. You get beat up if you dont believe what everybody else believes. This is like 30s Germany.
We loved that show. ABC sucks. Looked forward to watching it every Friday. It was cancelled because Tim Allen is conservative and Pro-Trump. It had good ratings. Maybe FOX Broadcasting will pick it up.
Since so many “journalists” are comparing Trump/Comey to Watergate or the JFK assassination, I’ll reach back a bit as well ...
During Nixon’s first term — mostly 1971, but starting a little before then, the TV Execs decided to get rid of all of the “rural” shows on TV. Hee-Haw,Petticoat Junction, Beverly Hillbillies, lots more.
The shows were successful. The shows were making money. But the bigwigs decided that America didn’t need to see wholesome fare. It was much better to let Norman Lear become the tastemaker.
If I watched TV I would boycott them.
Family Ties was very popular also. Same theme...sort of.
Might have to do with money.
ABC cancelled Dr. Ken as well, also on Friday.
Huge Cost cutting to get another season of Once Upon a Time by drooping several cast members.
Look at shows cancelled so far by other networks. ie. CBS canned Two Broke Girls.
Just Like His TV Series Home Improvement, “You LOSE TIM!”
IIRC, Disney owns ABC and Disney's TV group, thanks to ESPN, has been taking a huge hit
It is really eye opening, to see changes in TV, as reflective of changes in society over the decades.
The sitcoms nowadays tend to have homosexual characters, take for granted that unmarried people are sleeping together, sometimes push liberal themes such as global warming in the the storylines, etc.
TV shows of the ‘50s and ‘60s would never have had a homosexual character. Today it is virtually mandatory.
Family sitcoms with a mom and dad and kids have given way to sitcoms of “unconventional” families. Are there any sitcoms nowadays featuring a traditional family???
And serious shows, crime dramas, police shows, lawyer shows, etc. tend to be pushing liberal causes, approval of homosexuality, etc as part of the storylines.
Somebody has said that “Will and Grace” influenced debates over homosexuality, including homosexual marriage. That show was a sympathetic view of the homosexual.
Have there ever been any shows in which a “protected class” member is the butt of the joke or a buffoon??
On the other hand, how many comedies nowadays show the dad to be a klutz or otherwise a foolish character??
Can you imagine the outcry if any show had the gay character be the buffoon???
Allen’s program could be successful on another network. But
what I am curious about is what if you took a Tim Allen
character and put him in a TV or newspaper news room with
a cast of liberal fools? It wouldn’t take the best writers;
some real funny plots could be drawn from real life.
I would love to see such a TV series.
>>ABC cancelled Dr. Ken as well, also on Friday.<<
Dr. Ken’s shtick got old after a season. His TV dad saved it but it was only a question of time.
Should have made his wife hotter.
As for 2BG: It was a slut-fest from the start and from what I can see from the commercials it was a slut-fest to the end. We did note the chunky one lost a LOT of weight between seasons 1 and 2. Stopped watching after season 1.
Both the Hallmark Channel and Country Music Television run several episodes of Last Man Standing each weeknight.
Yet Hollywood will still don their Cloak of Martyrdom and complain about "Blacklisting" where liberals are concerned. Our side should be using that term nowadays.
I saw an article about this a couple of days ago. I can’t remember what site it was on, but the comments people made, and there were plenty of them, were very angry over the cancellation. I never watched the program, as I don’t care for comedy programs. I checked the ratings over the past seasons, and they have consistently been strong. ABC/Freeform has done nothing but shove homosexual content down our throats over the years. I can probably count on one hand the number of programs I watch on ABC or any of their affiliates, as their programming sucks. I know they recently acquired “American Idol”, which is another program I never watched, and will now, never watch.
I believe there are now more people with Netflix subscriptions than cable subscriptions. Tim just needs to get a show on Netflix.
A whopping 270,000 people each month have been cutting cable. We did. Best decision.
We just got a Roku. Trying it out first before we cut Direct TV.
I asked my daughter - you can find seasons one through five of Last Man Standing on Netflix and season six on Hulu. I may just give it a try.
lol if I didn’t already ignore ABC then I could vow never to watch them again.... ok, I will never watch ABC again. Damn those bastards.
Uncle Arthur.
