Implosion: The law was, after all, just a "step on the path to single payer."
Last year, you may recall that one of the nations largest insurers, Aetna, announced it had suffered major losses under the failing Affordable Care Act. As a result, it was pulling out of many ACA exchanges. The company said it intended to soldier on in just four states - Delaware, Iowa, Nebraska, and Virginia.
Back then, Aetna claimed losses of almost $450 million. A few weeks ago, they announced that number has risen to $700 million since 2014, and they trimmed Iowa and Virginia from the list. They promised theyd continue to evaluate future plans for Delaware and Nebraska.
Yep. And that path is littered with collateral damage bodies for the cause.
Great point. Job losses, penalties paid, insurance rates increased, unreachable deductibles (ie. I have insurance, I just can’t afford to use it), burdens on healthcare providers, impact on care itself...
Why don’t the Republicans just let the thing die? If no insurers are there what good is it? They don’t have to do a thing except allow free market to take over. Rates WILL do down and you dang well can choose your doctor if that is the plan you want.
No wonder my Aetna has gotten so crappy the last couple of years....
I’m confused on this whole thing.
Let’s say I run an insurance company that prior to Obamacare offered varying forms of insurance policies from basic to premium levels for individuals and companies. Along comes Obamacare and now I have to offer insurance to everyone and those policies must cover pre-existing conditions and other things that some of my customers may or may never need to access. For this new level of services I raise my rates and increase out of pocket deductibles. But now I’m suddenly bleeding money like I’ve been gut shot in the liver.
So my question is why? Prior, I had X number of previous customers and then after I added Y number of new customers and the government is subsidizing a portion of the Y costumers.
Did the actual cost of medical services from doctors and hospitals increase?
What this article fails to mention is that Aetna and all of the other insurance companies are still making record profits on their non Obama care plans, the ones that are employer based.
They raised the premiums and the deductibles are now so high on every plan that most people refuse to go to the doctor except for the yearly physical that is covered.
People that pay 18-20 K in premiums per year for their families between the employer and employee contributions STILL have to pay $1,500 deductible before insurance pays.
These are people that used to have a $20 co-pay after paying premiums like that.
That Kenyan faggot and his communist scumbag gang have screwed us but good.

Thanks but that brings up another point. They made going to the doctor so un affordable, so wouldn’t that mean their not paying claims and pocketing more money
The Y people overran the X people. X people took off for the hills.
The article failed to mention Aetna is up 247% over the past 5yrs. I’ve done very well.
Get in bed with 0bama, you deserve it,
Exactly, Obmamacare is making them a fortune on their other business lines, they cry poverty on the exchanges.
The dishonest press wont report that they are swimming in boatloads of cash everywhere else.
Lots of people are still paying the same premiums or slightly higher through work, but they have stopped going to the doctor.
This is literally killing people that are not getting diagnosed in time because they don’t want to pay a $1,500 deductible.
I bet the CEO made out like a bandit.
Aetna CEO makes about $30 million a year, almost all from bonuses based on profits. His base salary (I think) is under $2 million.
“His base salary (I think) is under $2 million.”

Thank God for the bonuses——who on earth could survive on that paltry amount? /s
.
He earns this by denying healthcare to many many people.
