Great point. Job losses, penalties paid, insurance rates increased, unreachable deductibles (ie. I have insurance, I just can’t afford to use it), burdens on healthcare providers, impact on care itself...
I’m confused on this whole thing.
Let’s say I run an insurance company that prior to Obamacare offered varying forms of insurance policies from basic to premium levels for individuals and companies. Along comes Obamacare and now I have to offer insurance to everyone and those policies must cover pre-existing conditions and other things that some of my customers may or may never need to access. For this new level of services I raise my rates and increase out of pocket deductibles. But now I’m suddenly bleeding money like I’ve been gut shot in the liver.
So my question is why? Prior, I had X number of previous customers and then after I added Y number of new customers and the government is subsidizing a portion of the Y costumers.
Did the actual cost of medical services from doctors and hospitals increase?
What this article fails to mention is that Aetna and all of the other insurance companies are still making record profits on their non Obama care plans, the ones that are employer based.
They raised the premiums and the deductibles are now so high on every plan that most people refuse to go to the doctor except for the yearly physical that is covered.
People that pay 18-20 K in premiums per year for their families between the employer and employee contributions STILL have to pay $1,500 deductible before insurance pays.
These are people that used to have a $20 co-pay after paying premiums like that.
