Councilman Gil Cedillo said Tuesday he plans to introduce a motion that would require companies seeking contracts with the city to publicly disclose if they are also submitting bids to build President Donald Trumps controversial border wall.
The measure would impose strict penalties and fines on any company that fails to disclose the information.
Cedillo said he plans to introduce the motion at Fridays Los Angeles City Council meeting and discuss it at a news conference Thursday with a coalition of immigration rights, community and labor leaders, including Rusty Hicks, executive secretary-treasurer of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor.
Nearly two out of three Angelenos are either immigrants or the children of immigrants who are a vital part of the citys economic engine, according to a statement released by Cedillos office.
Immigrants contribute billions of dollars in income and make up a significant percentage of both the workforce and business community, the statement says. City residents deserve to know how public funding is spent, and whether or not they are supporting individuals or entities who are involved in the construction of a border wall that will significantly impact them and bring harm to their families and communities.
One of Trumps top issues as he was running for president was a promise to build a wall stretching over the entire U.S.-Mexico border, and to make Mexico pay for it. Trump has yet to come forward with any plan on how to force or coerce Mexico to pay for the wall, and a recent budget deal he signed, funding the federal government through September, did not include any money for the wall.
Reuters reported in February that a U.S. Department of Homeland Security analysis concluded the wall could cost $21.6 billion and take more than three years to build.
The president has said the border wall is needed to cut down on drug trafficking and immigrants coming into the country illegally.
Trumps immigration policies have been met with strong opposition by the L.A. City Council, which has passed and introduced numerous motions opposing his agenda.
You just know this is sponsored by Arizona and Texas.
How could this RIDICULOUS proposed law possibly be constitutional? How could a company be forced to reveal its private dealings? This legislator is a shill for Mexico or wherever he sneaked in from.
These policies should be deemed anti-American and “sanctuary”, leading to cut in federal funding. Plus, how about moving federal offices and staff out of LA area. Bet they’d change their tune real quick.
Where’s McCarthy when you need him.
Geesh.
The wall needs to be built around LA first. Then SF. Then Mexico.
oh, LA, you’re not that important any more with all your dual citizen mouthpieces. Sit down.
Pretty sure an idiot law like this would fall under restraint of trade violations.

Nobody asks why Angelinos are expected to shell out for these people (which is cutting into funds for services which should be going to them) or if they jumped across the border they’d be denied voting and property ownership in their own names never mind the other free stuff.
Does this clown keep doors to his house open ? And let anybody come and go sleep and eat there ?
His stats are not true.
It’s like they don’t even want to be part of the US anymore.
What country is LA part of?
Libs will cheer this and ignore the pertinent fact: BIDS FOR THE TRUMP WALL HAVE BEGUN. Prototypes will be built this summer. The wall is COMING.
