Actress Patricia Arquette, an outspoken critic of President Trump, says climate change is the one issue really keeping her up at night.
It's "something we can't turn back the clock on," Arquette said Monday night in Washington, D.C. “Dismantling the [Environmental Protection Agency] and rolling back all these climate regulations … we’re going to pay a huge price for that."
“I’m concerned with legislation, but I at least hope we can change that again. But as far as climate change, there’s no negotiating the devastating effects of disregard and destruction at that level,” she added.
Arquette was one of four women honored Monday night at Salesforce's first Equality Awards.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) made a surprise appearance and introduced the three other honorees, tennis legend Billie Jean King, equal rights activist Lilly Ledbetter and singer Mary J. Blige.
Arquette praised Pelosi as “a champion for equality” at the ceremony and spoke out against the gender pay gap.
The actress told The Hill she believes people “need to get out and vote in 2018.” And she encouraged those disillusioned by the Trump administration's policies to call their representatives and volunteer for organizations like Swing Left, which aims to help progressive candidates in swing districts.
“It is actually very effective when people call their congresspeople,” she said. “And obviously every vote counts, not just our votes but the House and Senate votes. So we have got to get more people elected that will question these policies.”
She said she ultimately remains hopeful.
When people take action and join together, said Arquette, “We can accomplish a lot.”
