Its the one drink you dont want your new date to order during your first outing.
Some Chicago bars are using a new method to help protect womens safety. CBS 2s Audrina Bigos shows us a secret code system that triggers a silent alarm if women feel theyre in danger.
Inside New Line Tavern in the West Loop, Marisa Kersten noticed a sign in the ladies room. It tells women how they can get assistance from the staff in event a first date implodes or is turning scary. They need to repeat some secret codes at the bar.
Staff member Justin Witalka explains:
If you order an angel shot, that basically means we will know to escort you to your car or the bus stop. For an angel shot with ice, that means were going to call you an Uber or Lyft. For an angel shot with lime juice, that means that we will call the police, step in and intervene to make sure that customer is safe.
Kersten thinks its a good idea because of the uncertainty with first dates.
When you meet people online, you dont know what youre getting. It could turn into a bad situation, she says.
Since putting the signs up in two bars, owners say the bartenders havent had to step in. But theyre there, just in case.

What -- these brave, tough, fierce, independent, badass broads, who think they ought to be assigned to Army and Marine Corps grunt combat units and can do anything a man can do and do it better, need help protecting their ferocious selves?

As long as the guys can use the same system I’m cool with it.

What if its a second date? All bets are off. An 'angel shot' will get you a drink laced with rohypnol.

If you were able to get up and go the bathroom you could probably walk out the back door without embarrassing someone who you just may not like.

I can see this being abused with possibly hilarious results.

Do they have bartenders to warn guys when they’re headed toward chewing off their own arm in the morning?

There are enough creepy people out there that it's a good additional layer of protection if a woman is out alone with a man she doesn't know. But that begs the question, why is she out
alone with a man she doesn't know?
Single ladies, maybe you should do a double date or go out with a guy that a good friend is familiar with and can vouch for. And definitely don't use Craig's List for a date.

I used to work with a guy that told me about a first date he was on where the woman and he weren’t getting along at all. I think he even said she smelled weird. So in the middle of dinner he had had enough and excused himself to the restroom, slipped out of the restaurant and drove away.
That was an effective system.

As a female, my first dates don’t usually don’t include bars and booze. Maybe I’m old fashioned.
