Mom-and-pop shops aren't the only ones closing their doors to support immigrants as part of the "A Day Without Immigrants" protests. Several McDonald's locations have also shuttered for the day.
The nationwide event is a combination of a protest and a strike. It is in response to President Donald Trump's immigration agenda, which has included a pledge to build a wall along the Mexican border and enact a travel ban on citizens of seven majority-Muslim countries.
"The purpose of the protest is to show just how disruptive immigration changes by the government could impact consumers' everyday life," Darren Tristano, president of Technomic, told CNBC. "For McDonald's franchisees and company stores, it is likely best to close the restaurant versus trying to manage the restaurant with an inadequate service staff. Although many customers will see this is an inconvenience, many will understand."
McDonald's first quarter sales could be affected by these closures, as it already faces difficult comparisons with first quarter 2016, which benefited from an extra day on Feb. 29. Same-store sales were up 5.4 percent that quarter, fueled by value deals and all-day breakfast....

Finished jury duty and went out for dinner. Noticed that one of our local Mexican restaurants was closed with no “special” note on the door as to why. Of course, I know why and they won’t be seeing me there again.
They only have “McJobs” anyway.
Kate Steinle will never be able to enjoy your fine cuisine!
Congratulations to them
I will be celebrating a day without McDonalds for at least the next 2 weeks
Then maybe I’ll celebrate again for another month
Globalist CEO’s are into political correctness, not profit.
I totally forgot yesterday was the “big event”
I didn’t notice a difference any where I went for errands or work and I currently live in an area where it should have been obvious if illegals and their sympathizers didn’t show up to work.
I saw plenty of day laborers standing around 8am, 12 noon and still at 3pm at a number of places in 3 cities I traveled through on my day.
If we could get a list of the locations which closed, those locations might just present a “target rich environment” for ICE agents.
Two things:
I’ll bet less than 200 restaurants nationwide closed, perhaps 25 McDonald’s.
Secondly, why don’t we hire a few homeless vets to picket a few McDonald’s (near news outlets) with signs that say;
“Don’t eat here. McDonald’s hires illegal alien criminals and hurts disabled American veterans”
Bet that would generate a few fast phone calls to McDonald’s corporate.
So McDonalds employs illegal Alians in its workforce is that right?
No wonder American kids can’t find a starter job.
I guess it’s time to boycott McDonalds.
Ours was open, not that I’d eat there. In TN they won’t let you CCW. So they are on my Boycott list.
I think it such a worthy cause they should be encouraged to make it permanent thing 24/7...
A few years back they dumped their blatantly racist “Mickey D’s” campaign when they realized it encouraged black teenagers who didn’t buy anything to take over some of their stores and chase White paying customers away. So what is this a “Mickey D-iaz” campaign that will flop as well?
Like I said - there are worse places to live.
So, you pulled in just as we were transferred to my final assignment in Washington, D.C. I like your characterization of the coast. We enjoyed many things about it, including the proximity to Florida beaches and NOLA. I even remember going out to Waveland, sadly flattened by Katrina, for an activity or two. We stayed in D.C. following my Navy retirement.
I was terrified about how this would affect me that I sent $1,000.00 dollars to a Nigerian prince who told me he could stop it.
God Bless for your service - I ran a SCIF that developed courses for NSA’s networks and had a number of Navy troops working for me - some of the sharpest and most professional troops one could ask for. They got involved in my retirement and it was super to have Navy tradition involved in the deal. I had to beat my commander about the head and shoulders to get them the Air Force Achievement Medal for a project that saved the NSA folks millions due to some bad programming and they noticed.....we went to Mobile to conduct a frocking ceremony on the USS Alabama.
We have a McDonald’s not far from us that I hit the drive thru once in awhile. There is another one in the opposite direction about the same distance.
A few years ago when I’d hit the drive thru of the one occasionally I’d get someone whose English was so bad I couldn’t understand them thru the speaker. When that happened I’d simply say....get the manager to the window for me. Then when I got there I’d order from him and tell him why. That held up the line. Then when he’d walk away and the gal I couldn’t understand would come back I’d say I can’t understand you, tell the manager I’m going to the McDonald’s on X st because they speak English, and drive off. lol
I haven’t had that problem there in quite awhile now.
