Mom-and-pop shops aren't the only ones closing their doors to support immigrants as part of the "A Day Without Immigrants" protests. Several McDonald's locations have also shuttered for the day.
The nationwide event is a combination of a protest and a strike. It is in response to President Donald Trump's immigration agenda, which has included a pledge to build a wall along the Mexican border and enact a travel ban on citizens of seven majority-Muslim countries.
"The purpose of the protest is to show just how disruptive immigration changes by the government could impact consumers' everyday life," Darren Tristano, president of Technomic, told CNBC. "For McDonald's franchisees and company stores, it is likely best to close the restaurant versus trying to manage the restaurant with an inadequate service staff. Although many customers will see this is an inconvenience, many will understand."
McDonald's first quarter sales could be affected by these closures, as it already faces difficult comparisons with first quarter 2016, which benefited from an extra day on Feb. 29. Same-store sales were up 5.4 percent that quarter, fueled by value deals and all-day breakfast....

GOOD! Let them be shuttered PERMANENTLY! And they actually think anybody will CARE????
I had two cups coffee yesterday, at McDonalds, to test their dumb theory.
No problemo...
If some McDonald’s closed yesterday because illegal aliens went on strike, then those particular McDonald’s need to have their books and employee rolls audited ASAP.
These “Days Without [Illegal Alien] Immigrants” are supposed to demonstrate to the American public just how much we depend on illegal aliens to make sure the country keeps running. The strike yesterday, just like the illegal alien strike staged a few years ago for the same purpose, made no difference at all. All of my employees were at work, including the legal resident immigrants and naturalized citizens. When I went to the grocery store, there were plenty of staff on hand to check out my purchases and collect my payment. My life was not impacted. I suspect that those whose lives were impacted are the rich liberals who use illegal aliens as slave labor to clean their houses, watch their children, and tend the gardens.
Not to mention Arby’s. They have the MEATS! Be sure to ring the bell on your way out when you leave.
About 10 years ago there was “A Day Without a Mexican” and I was having an addition put on my house. Juan didn’t show that day and I asked the contractor why Juan wasn’t there.
He told me so I said “ tell Juan he can have all the time off he wants. I don’t want him back on my property. Replace him with someone who’s legal.”
OH NOOOOs....... Wait, I do not eat at McCrackalds. I guess I will not be hurt.
They just need to hold out for about another month. Their issue will have taken care of itself.
How about “a day without any American being killed by an illegal drunk driver”? I’d be a lot more interested in that.
The BK's in my area love to leave onions out all day. I got tired of food poisoning {belching onions} and haven't been there in years. The most disgusting experience at a BK was 22 years ago when I stopped in for a whopper, regular burger, fries and a coke to take to work for supper. I opened the burger and fries up to eat immediately and the burger poured ketchup and mustard all over me. The fries were half frozen literally. But the real surprise awaited me when I got to work and had consumed my coke. I opened the lid to pour water onto the ice and a dead fly was laying on top of the ice.
I called the store and told the manager what happened. He said I'll give you a free meal I told him that I would not eat food from there again even if he paid me and I was calling the health dept. That store was well known for hiring illegals.
Gee, I can’t say whether the day without an immigrant was a success yesterday, since I didn’t leave the office because I was WORKING.
I used to work as one back in the day I was putting myself through college.
for that reason, I would not eat there.
The staff at my local McDonalds is mostly young American Black kids. They do a fine job. More immigration and they wouldn’t have jobs.
Sometimes I’m pretty hungry when I leave the office but there is only one fast food restaurant open since the McDonald’s on the corner is no longer 24 hr, and it’s a Burger King that unfortunately serves up poor quality food late at night. Stopped there a few times and even ordering a special didn’t ensure freshness. Dried out, barely warm burgers. So anymore I just get O rings with the sauce to tide me over till I get home. I do miss having the occasional Big mac or Mcdouble. As a kid I remember the fries being good but I haven’t bothered with the limp, dry and flavorless substitute for years.
AND they are liars, misleading the public knowing they are doing so ... the issue is not immigrants, it IS illegals. Apparently McDonald’s hires these illegal invaders and now wants to protect their illegal work force. NOT ONE ITEM from McDonalds will this household buy since they have exposed themselves as enemies of The Republic.
The mexican market down the road closed; the India-folks market stayed open, with a smile. They came here the hard way - legally, and wouldn’t mind one bit if the market down the road stayed closed.
Ugh and what you described makes me want to check everything over before I eat it. I used to be quite paranoid eating out and would have to inspect the meat and whatever but my family would sometimes make fun of me, roll their eyes or made comments like stop being paranoid or whatever so at some point I guess they convinced me it wasn’t normal and I stopped lol. I think it’s a wise thing to do again because you really never know, and it’s better to take a few moments of caution than to eat half a cheeseburger before you realize it’s under cooked, or notice that fly after you’ve ingested it’s waste (sorry :)
Last couple times Atlanta suffered the “strike”, the only consequence was improved traffic conditions.
The “strike” was yesterday? Now that I telecommute, didn’t notice. Wife was un-hindered in spending money at brick-and-mortar stores.
The people picking citrus were still working yesterday in the groves. Must have missed the El Memo.
I doubt any business on the MS Gulf Coast will have this problem....
