If you watched the late Bob Munden when he did his quick draw and shooting from the hip, it was amazing to watch. What's really kind of neat is that this type of shooting is similar to what law enforcement term retention shooting. Retention shooting was taught to the officers when they had to pull the weapon out and fire while in close proximity to a suspect. The history of it goes back to the early 1900's taught by William E Fairbairn the author of several tactical shooting books.
Fast forward to modern day, the person in this video blasting away at high speed below is Baret Fawbush, he says that he is not an expert, but when watching him draw and shoot from the retention at close quarter, he sure fooled us.
Calling this a "close retention shooting drill," he puts his hands up, clears his mind, and then empties his magazine like a boss.
While he says that this is not a video on defensive tactics, seeing Baret in action against targets with t-shirts and a box for a head. Dont know looks like very much like a drill for defensive purpose.
Talk about shoot from the hip!, this is the modern version of gun slinging at its best. Whoever thought this technique would turn out to be one of the most important to have at your disposal. See the footage here.
Several of the tactical shooting courses I’ve attended taught this sort of shooting. It’s been a while for me, but I remember the adrenaline from shooting so close to the body. It seemed counter-intuitive, like I’d be hurt somehow, but I never felt so much as a grain of powder hit my body as I fired from “position 1.”
Wholeheartedly agree that such is THE way to practice shooting a handgun.
Raylan Givens is MUCH faster’n that.
Later
BS his first few shot goes way low and into the ground.
Stop action it and you well see that the muzzle is way low on his first shot it is not until the 3rd or so he is even in the targets tee shirt

Looks like a great way to shoot your penis off.
Naw, watch the teaching video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oVV2Awjfj4
Not too concerned, I’ve got plenty to spare.
There are no good ways to do that, IMO.

I'm shocked and amazed that he hasn't, as yet, shot himself with that Glock.
In the videos, you see why ... he teaches positioning the index finger so as the weapon comes out of the holster the trigger finger rides high against the slide. To learn this, the finger ‘learns’ the feel of the belt line prior to the weapon coming out.

some good stuff there- Back in the early 80’s I went to a curiosity shop where they had world’s tallest living woman, statue of robert wadlow (sp?)- tallest man, smallest person etc- and one exhibit was of a quick draw artist- I think he mighta even been faster than the first two links in my previous post- it was unreal- and he was accurate too- (of course they use scatter shot in their ammo- but still- to even get anywhere near close to the center of a lifesaver (Shot a piece of tape out of it) at 10 foot distance is amazing at that speed-)
Noticed that, just start shooting to get the fast time, accuracy be-damned.
I made a mistake- The person i saw in the shop video was the same fella- he said in this video he’s held the record since the 60’s- so it likely was this fella that was depicted in the shop-
He shoots a shot in under 2/100’th’s of a second- and claims it is the fastest thing anyone anywhere has ever been able to accomplish- and claims only the speed of light is faster- (I disagree- I could lose an argument with a woman in under 1/1000’th of a second and not even realize what just happened- lol)

Is the following real? 200 yard shot with 38 snubnose- upside down, with little finger- This fella holds speed records too-

It is fun and not difficult to do fast. I have done this multiple times every time I take conceal carry night drill. As soon as the gun clears the holster, tuck the elbow into your side and pivot gun. 3 shots into target in front, 2 steps back, full aiming extension and Mozambique to second target to right. And I do it with a GLOCK 26.
I’m suprised he hasn’t pulled a “Tex Grubner” yet myself.
