Ok, we are surprising someone tomorrow with a Christmas tree. We are Jewish so pretty clueless as to how this works. Got a beautiful tree about 6 feet, best watering stand we could find, even got millions of little lights all up around it (thanks, YouTube!). But it needs something around the base. Thought I could just grab a tree skirt, but this tree has an enormous stand, diameter maybe 2.5 feet. The skirts only have a small hole for the trunk.
What can we put under the tree that would fit? So many Christians here who put up trees every year, I know someone will have an idea. Should we get Christmas blankets and bunch them around the base? Or would that look sloppy? Please do not suggest lifting the whole thing up to put a regular skirt under it, because that is not happening before tomorrow. The base is full of water.
Thanks for helping our surprise with this finishing touch!
I use one of the many homemade quilts I have. When I was a kid my mother used a white sheet. It doesn’t matter a lot since the presents will cover it. You might just let the person you’re giving it to make the choice. They might have something that would be perfect.
Just get some nice Red Felt to the size you want, and cut a hole in the center.
Boom! Done :)
We could put a sheet under there, sure, and then they can choose something else. Good idea! Thanks.
Wonder who would have felt. Michaels probably, right? Another great idea though it involves cutting to size and possibly gasp measuring, lol.
I never put a skirt around my tree base. Don’t sweat it. The tree sounds beautiful the way it is.
I normally go to Hobby Lobby.
Measuring does help.
But is NOT required! LOL! XD
Go to a thrift store and find a cheap linen or cotton sheet to throw around it.
Most skirts have a slit between the inside hole and the other edge so it slides into place while on the stand. We have a 10 ft tree w a huge base and the skirt works great.
We have used a sheet many times to wrap around the base of a tree. You could also find an inexpensive Christmas patterned throw at Wal-mart and cut half way through before wrapping it around the tree. I have a throw that has pine cones and poinsettia on it.
Usually those tree skirts wrap around the tree, then tie one edge of the skirt to the other to form the circle. Take another good look.
Lol, still traumatized from building a sukkah in Oct. ;)
Got a gift cert from Cost Plus where they have great ornaments that they can go choose.
You might try wrapping a festive tablecloth around the bottom.
Put an electric train set around it.
I'm going to leave that one alone :-)
When I was a kid we made one out of green felt and glued cutouts from other color felt onto it ... snowmen, santa, stars, camels etc. For 7$ in felt, scissors and elmers glue you could have a little skirt making party.
That is what I was thinking, but I didn’t think of cutting that slit in it - great idea.
A white sheet around the base!
Rumple a white blanket around the large base.
LOL!
You haven't lived until you find a Cat has made a nice little sleeping spot, scares the daylights out of you, you knock over a candle (Don't ask) and catch it on fire.
Everyone and everything was okay, just not that thatch XD

Again Hobby Lobby, but after Christmas Sales is the best time for all of that for the next year.
Since this sounds like your First Christmas, you can find really nice ones I am sure in L.A. just watch the prices. :)
I grew up in a predominately Jewish neighborhood. Our neighbors referred to our tree as a Hanukkah Bush. My mother hung dreidels on it for her friends to see. Knowing my mom she would suggest a blue and white striped skirt.
