Asians in America faced heavy discrimination and animus in the early twentieth century. Yet, after institutional restrictions were lifted in the late 1940s, Asian incomes quickly converged to white incomes. Why? In the politically incorrect paper of the year (ungated) Nathaniel Hilger argues that convergence was due to market forces subverting discrimination.
...
Despite this intense discrimination, Asian (primarily Japanese and Chinese) incomes converged to white incomes as early as 1960 and certainly by 1980. One argument is that Asians invested so heavily in education that convergence has been overstated but Hilger shows that convergence occurred conditional on education. Similarly, convergence was not a matter of immigration or changing demographics. Instead, Hilger argues that once institutional discrimination was eased in the 1940s, market forces enforced convergence.

If that theory is true, however, then why havent black incomes converged? And here is where the paper gets into the politically incorrect:
Modern empirical work has indicated that cognitive test scoresinterpreted as measures of productivity not captured by educational attainmentcan account for a large share of black-white wage and earnings gaps (Neal and Johnson, 1996; Johnson and Neal, 1998; Fryer, 2010; Carruthers and Wanamaker, 2016). This literature documents large black-white test score gaps that emerge early in childhood (Fryer and Levitt, 2013), persist into adulthood, and appear to reflect genuine skills related to labor market productivity rather than racial bias in the testing instrument (Neal and Johnson, 1996).

Empirical evidence is racist!

Orientals hire other orientals.
The jumbotron-sized flashing message filling all four walls of the room is the fact that the Asian nuclear family remained intact, expected excellence, and paved a path to success for their family tree, while the black family scattered in three directions.
The family that strives together thrives together.
There was a book about this that already ‘rang’ this bell earlier. It was resoundingly discredited by PC.
I believe its nearly all cultural
Asians have very strong nuclear families, with emphasis on traditional respect for parents and the elderly. Part of this includes the Confucian ideal of education as a means of advancement, and as a way of giving respect to one’s parents.
Wow...what a revelation! I guess I am just a simpleton, but is it because THEY GO TO WORK! EVERY-FRICKIN-DAY! THEY WORK THEIR A$$ES OFF??!
The answer is in the “Bell Curve”.
Culture is IQ driven.
Is that racist?
Or, maybe because they work their butts off.
My wife’s acrylic nail person is Vietnamese and probably works 60-70 hours a week. If my wife calls her, she says “You come now...I squeeze you in.”.
I think my wife wants to adopt this lady.
“Orientals hire other orientals.”
Not always true, where it may be true is with the immigrant generation where language is a barrier.
Maybe Asian families ability to stay together is based strong cultural incentives and traditions...or maybe raw intelligence trumps shallow short-term rewards.
Bingo.
And smart people tend to have positive cultures.
Asians did not turn to politicians to make life good for them. All too many blacks are still falling for that suckers game.
Used to visit a bagel shop on my early morning motorcycle ride. Owner’s wife was Vietnamese and worked in the shop with a group of high school girls. The difference between the way she worked and they worked was amazing. She never moved without looking ahead to anticipate some need of the customers or service item. She didn’t talk much but she worked super efficiently, so I complimented her one day years after, for which she thanked me profusely. Her husband got my comment too.
I found that this oriental concern for doing a job well and with attention to detail was a common trait. Is that racism?
The strong nuclear family is key for the Asian family The emphasis on education is a large factor. And for the Japanese, stumbling blocks like the internment in WWII were overcome. In fact, it may have served as the impetus for success.
Other populations are more than happy to wait for the check to arrive in the mail each month because they figure they are owed it.
I think the elephant in the room is that there may very well be a biological factor here as well. As politically incorrect as it may be (bordering on heresy), maybe Asians on the whole are just smarter than other races.
It is clear that some races have superior physical abilities. Is it so hard to believe intellectual capabilites also vary by race?
